Dreamcasting Emerald City Confidential: The Movie

Jayne Wisener as Petra, the main character, a hard-nosed detective in a Noirish, 40-years-post-Wizard book-verse version of Oz.



Use hair dye to make her have Petra's dark hair. I like Jayne blond, but this version of Oz has Dorothy as blond. I want Jayne to be Petra.

Richard E. Grant as the Lion, formerly the Cowardly Lion, now a fairly corrupt lawyer.

Possibly use his voice for a CG character, or use prosthetics. More likely, I'd like to do motion capture like they did for Gollum in Lord of the Rings.

Robin Williams as the Gump Transit System, kind of like flying bus things.

Voice-over role only. Possibly use motion capture of his face for the Gumps' face.

But now that Robin Williams is dead, Neil Gaiman is my second option for the Gumps.

Hilary Duff as Dorothy Gale, AKA Dee. She's all grown up and seeks out Petra to look for her missing fiance, Anzel.

I don't think I'd change her much, except maybe to make her look like she's older.

Robbie Coltrane as Tik Tok, Petra's former commanding officer from when she was in Oz's Royal Guard. He's guarding Emerald City's North Gate.

This'll be another motion capture character.

Michael Clarke Duncan was my first choice for Tik Tok, but unfortunately, he passed away...

Hugh Laurie as Hank the Mule. He guards the home of Betsy Bobbins.

Voice-over role.

Daran Norris as The Scarecrow. He lurks in the shadows of Petra's office for a while. It turns out he works as an advisor to Queen Ozma.

Probably will work with prosthetics, along with using actual straw like in the famous Wizard of Oz movie from the 1930s.

Anneliese van der Pol as Scraps the Patchwork Girl, one of Petra's neighbors. She runs a shop next door to Petra's office. She's got a forgetfulness to her that's a lot like Dory from Finding Nemo. It turns out, she's a smuggler that works for the Frogman.

Abigail Breslin as Betsy Bobbins, a socialite and Anzel's other woman. She thinks Anzel is a lousy bum.

Timothy Spall as Professor Wogglebug, head of the University in Emerald City.

This will probably be another motion capture role.

Rollo Weeks as Cutter, who works as Professor Wogglebug's assistant. It later turns out that he's really Petra's long-lost younger brother, William. He was sacrificed to the Phanfasms by Queen Ozma to end the Phanfasm war.

So what if in real life, Rollo Weeks is a month older than Jayne Wisener. I still like this casting choice. He would have to dye his hair blonde, though.

A young unknown actor will play the younger version of him the end.

Lea Michele as General Jinjur, one of Petra's former coworkers in the Royal Guard. She's very serious about her job, and now outranks the Tik Tok.

It would be interesting to see Lea in a really nasty role to contrast her role of Rachel on Glee.

Jeff Fahey as Captain Bill, a merchant who has dealings with smuggling illegal magic artifacts.

Dianna Agron as Trot, a girl who works for Captain Bill. She's very defensive of Captain Bill.

Dianna would have to dye her hair dark. Or wear a dark wig.

Will Friedle as Jack Pumpkinhead, a guy with a pumpkin for a head, obviously. He and Anzel worked together in a smuggling ring for magical artifacts.

Maybe the costume or makeup crews could make him a pumpkin helmet thing. Or, with today's prosthetics, it'd probably look more realistic than the one they used for that Return to Oz movie in the '80s.

James Nesbitt as Ruggedo, a former Nome King that fought for the Phanfasms in the Phanfasm War, 20 years before Emerald City Confidential. After the war, he was sent into exile in Oz, away from the Nome Kingdom, and has lost his magic. He now runs a pub.

Tom Kenny as Toto, Dorothy Gale's dog. In Oz, he can talk. Toto wants to study at the University, but animals aren't allowed to. Dogs are good at sniffing out magic.

Voice-over role.

Kevin McHale as Anzel, Dee's fiance who's involved in smuggling illegal magical artifacts.

Partial voice-over role for the scenes where he's hiding in Ruggedo's pub, disguised as a decanter.

Tina Fey as Ruggedo's Mirror. It's really more of a cameo appearance.

Voice-over role.

Florence Hoath as Queen Ozma. She took over as ruler of Oz after the Scarecrow.

Mark Strong as the First and Foremost Phanfasm, the leader of the Phanfasms. He has the head of some kind of bear and the body of a human.

Prosthetics or motion capture role.

Two extras or stunt guys would play his two henchmen.

Eddie Izzard as Woot, the owner of a magic tournament arena in Quadling Country.

Gwendoline Christie as Mombi, the reigning champion of magic tournaments at Woot's World of the Arcane stadium in Quadling Country. She's a diva.

Chloe Moretz as the girl in the cafe at Woot's. It's more of a cameo role.

Ricky Ullman as the magic rope in the cafe at Woot's.

It's more of a cameo voice-over role.

Gary Oldman as Kiki Aru, a rope charmer at the cafe at Woot's. It's more of a cameo role.

Joel Grey as the Wizard of Oz, now retired and working as a magic coach at Woot's.

Tahmoh Penikett as Ugu, apprentice to the Wizard of Oz and competitor to Mombi.

Olivia Williams as Glinda, the Witch of the South.

Dominic Monaghan as the Frogman, a mob boss that lives in Winkie Country.

Vince Vaughn as Shaggy, the owner of a Gump repair garage in Winkie Country. He has dealings with the Frogman and has a crush on Miss Cayke. He has an obvious stutter.

Lou Diamond Phillips as Nick Chopper, the Tin Man, current governor of Winkie Country.

Daryl Sabara as the Sawhorse, Nick Chopper's horse. He was frightened by something he saw when rented by the expedition led by Cutter and Anzel.

Voice-over role.

Margo Harshman as Miss Cayke, the owner of a diner in Winkie Country. She has dealings with the Frogman.

Evangeline Lilly as Nimee Amee, assistant to the Frogman. She used to date Nick Chopper.

Natalie Portman as the Wicked Witch of the West.

Directed by Tim Burton. He'll just have to deal with not having Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in it, like he did before about 5 years ago. Even though I like Johnny and Helena.

Music by Danny Elfman, if they don't use the original game soundtrack. It's just not a Tim Burton movie if it doesn't have a Danny Elfman soundtrack.
