Bridgit Mendler as Bess Marvin, one of Nancy's best friends, and George's cousin. This time, she and George are stuck in an airport, trying to meet up with Nancy at her aunt and uncle's ranch, Shadow Ranch, outside of Phoenix, Arizona.

In the game series, she's a phone-a-friend character, but maybe the phone calls with her could be done as a split screen thing like they used to do on "Lizzie McGuire."

Chloe Moretz as George Fayne, one of Nancy's best friends. This time, she and Bess are stuck in an airport, trying to meet up with Nancy at her aunt and uncle's ranch, Shadow Ranch, outside of Phoenix, Arizona.

It turns out, his great-aunt Ellie (a generation may be added, since this plot point in the game wasn't changed from earlier editions of the book) was the cousin of Frances Humber, the daughter of the ranch's original owner. He's been searching the ranch for the gold supposedly left for Frances by the outlaw Dirk Valentine, but he wasn't the one to create the accidents.

Josh Brolin as Tex Britten, the head horse wrangler at Shadow Ranch.



It turns out, he's secretly dating Mary Yazzie, and has been trying to help her get petrified wood from an unused part of the ranch land that she wants to buy. Also, his sister, Jane Nash, is a bitter former employee of the Rawleys back when they owned a clothing store in Phoenix.

Larry Miller as Shorty Thurmond, the cook at Shadow Ranch.



He's very superstitious and believes in the curse of the outlaw Dirk Valentine's ghost horse. He's had a few get-rich-quick schemes in the past. It turns out, he and some of his bank robber friends have been using that legend to try to scare everyone away from the ranch to try to find Dirk Valentine's gold in one of his get-rich-quick schemes.

Mizuo Peck as Mary Yazzie, a Native American woman who owns a local souvenir shop.



She wants to buy an unused part of the land of Shadow Ranch. It turns out,she wants that land for the petrified wood found all over that area to sell in her shop. She also has been secretly dating Tex.

Steve Carell as Ed Rawley, Bess and George's uncle. He and his wife own Shadow Ranch and invited the girls out there for a vacation. The night before the girls got there, he was bitten by a rattlesnake. He and Bet are in the hospital.

Kristin Chenoweth as Bet Rawley, Bess and George's aunt. She and her husband own Shadow Ranch and invited the girls out there for a vacation.

Diana Scarwid as Charleena Purcell, a historical romance novelist who specializes in the Old West. She's really interested in Shadow Ranch and the forbidden romance between Frances Humber and Dirk Valentine.

Matthew Morrison as Geza, someone who works with the Southwest Geological Survey. Nancy calls him with questions about a gold mine map of the Shadow Ranch area that Shorty got from the survey.

Jason Isaacs as Meryl Humber, the former sheriff of the area and the original owner of Shadow Ranch. In the game, he's only heard as a narration of the journal he left.

Have him narrate the journals/have little flashbacks of the action in the journals as he narrates.

Emily Osment as Frances Humber, the daughter of Meryl Humber. She had a major fallout with her father because she was dating the outlaw Dirk Valentine, back in the late 1800s. In the game, she's only heard as a narration of the letter she left and seen as in a painting in the living room of the ranch.

Have her narrate the letter/have little flashbacks of the action in the letter as she narrates. She'd have to dye her hair dark/wear a dark wig.

Manny Jacinto as Dirk Valentine, an outlaw who supposedly hid the gold from one of his heists on or near the ranch. The legend of his ghost horse started after his execution. In the game, he's only heard as a narration of the letters he left.

Have him narrate the letter/have little flashbacks of the action in the letters as he narrates.
