These are not exactly my favorite directors, they are just the filmmakers of which I've watched at least three movies that I consider to be masterpieces (although in some cases it was very difficult to choose only three films). Therefore, if many important films do not appear on this list is because I have not watched them yet, or they are not really among my three favorites. And some important directors like Abbas Kiarostami, Werner Herzog, Robert Altman, Joseph Losey and Francis Ford Coppola (just to name a few) were left out because I have not seen many of his films.
