Sunset Boulevard (1950)

September pick

The only film I watched all year that immediately earned a spot in my top 10 films of all time. One day I should figure out exactly which other 9 films would be up there with it.

The Experiment (2001)

In 2012 I was involved in a group project with fellow Listalites jaytoast, phillydude, and Xanadon't, called Movie Exchange Program. We exchanged several movies we own throughout the year, and this was hands-down my favorite of them all.

Brick (2005)

This one wound up officially falling under the Movie Exchange Program banner, but actually I already had a copy of this on DVD that had been passed along to me from Xanadon't who received the same copy from jaytoast (and thanks to them I also had it sitting in my Netflix IQ at the time hehe). There were many films exchanged behind the scenes of our group project, which I highly enjoyed & hope to continue.

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

November pick

This month's spot might have been held by Hugo, but I wanted to have one spot held by an animated film since I watched so many of them throughout the year. Plus this was the only film that my "wife" & kiddo & I watched in the theatre together, so for that alone it's got a special place in my heart.

Network (1976)

As timely now as it was in 1976. If for any reason you've been putting this one off, it's time to give it a chance.

Rosemary's Baby (1968)

October pick

My annual Horrorfest tradition actually included a few films I'd rank above this one, but of all the first-time views this one easily takes top honors. Its classic status is well-earned & I'm glad I chose to shell out the $5 for the DVD just so I could finally watch it.

Django Unchained (2012)

December pick

I didn't see as many new films in the theatre in 2012 as I'd hoped, but at the end of the year this one stood at the top of the heap. We'll see whether I find a film to knock it off its perch in the future.

Hidden gems

I don't know about you, but I love it whenever someone else leads me to good films that aren't hugely popular. Here are some I'd like to lead others to check out. To qualify for a spot here, a film has to be seen by less than 200 Listal members. Also, I've excluded any films released in 2012 as I think it's unfair to call them hidden gems when in actuality in most cases they just haven't had time to reach a broad audience yet.
