Would you like to earn some extra cash on a two-week experiment that you could stop at any time? Some would, like these 20 characters in this film. 2 weeks in prison, some assuming the role of guards and some of prisoners. It is one of those movies I kept hearing about for a very long time so I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, I wasn’t disappointed. Indeed, during the whole thing, I was rather flabbergasted by what was going on but I couldn't help wondering if it would happen the same way in real life (apparently, it did since it is based on an actual experiment). Description:
The movie is based on the infamous "Stanford Prison Experiment" conducted in 1971. A makeshift prison is set up in a research lab, complete with cells, bars and surveillance cameras. For two weeks 20 male participants are hired to play prisoners and guards. The 'prisoners' are locked up and have to follow seemingly mild rules, and the 'guards' are told simply to retain order without using physical violence. Everybody is free to quit at any time, thereby forfeiting payment. In the beginning the mood between both groups is insecure and rather emphatic.
