Charlie Chaplin

Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin, KBE (16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977) was an English comic actor and film director of the silent film era who became one of the best-known film stars in the world before the end of the First World War. Chaplin used mime, slapstick and other visual comedy routines, and continued well into the era of the talkies, though his films decreased in frequency from the end of the 1920s. His most famous role was that of The Tramp, which he first played in the Keystone comedy Kid Auto Races at Venice in 1914. From the April 1914 one-reeler Twenty Minutes of Love onwards he was writing and directing most of his films, by 1916 he was also producing, and from 1918 composing the music. With Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and D. W. Griffith, he co-founded United Artists in 1919.

Chaplin was one of the most creative and influential personalities of the silent-film era. He was influenced by his predecessor, the French silent movie comedian Max Linder, to whom he dedicated one of his films.

In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Chaplin the 10th greatest male screen legend of all time.

Alfred Hitchcock

Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, KBE (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was an English filmmaker and producer who pioneered many techniques in the suspense and psychological thriller genres. After a successful career in his native United Kingdom in both silent films and early talkies, Hitchcock moved to Hollywood. In 1956 he became an American citizen while retaining his British citizenship.

Hitchcock directed more than fifty feature films in a career spanning six decades. Often regarded as the greatest British filmmaker, he came first in a 2007 poll of film critics in Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, which said: "Unquestionably the greatest filmmaker to emerge from these islands, Hitchcock did more than any director to shape modern cinema, which would be utterly different without him. His flair was for narrative, cruelly withholding crucial information (from his characters and from us) and engaging the emotions of the audience like no one else." MovieMaker has hailed him as the most influential filmmaker of all time.

Gary Oldman

Leonard Gary Oldman (born 21 March 1958) is an English actor and filmmaker, well-known to audiences for his portrayals of dark and morally ambiguous characters in films such as State of Grace, True Romance, Léon, The Fifth Element, The Contender, and perhaps most notably, 1992 blockbuster Dracula. He is also known for his portrayals of real-life figures.

Acclaimed for his diverse on-screen performances, Oldman has been cited as an influence by a number of successful actors. He also directed, wrote and co-produced Nil by Mouth, a film partially based on his own childhood, and served as a producer on The Contender, Plunkett & Macleane and Nobody's Baby.

Apathetic towards celebrity and the Oscars, Oldman has been described by The Guardian as "arguably the best actor never Oscar-nominated." Nonetheless, he has won, and been nominated for, multiple major film and television awards during his career. Allmovie characterised Oldman as having "consistently amazed viewers with his ability to completely disappear into his roles.

David Tennant

David Tennant (born David John McDonald; 18 April 1971) is a Scottish actor, best known for his roles as the tenth incarnation of the Doctor in the British television series Doctor Who, the title role in the TV serial Casanova (2005) and as Barty Crouch, Jr., in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). In addition to his appearances on screen, Tennant has worked as a voice actor, and appeared in a critically acclaimed stage production of Hamlet.

Christian Bale

Christian Charles Philip Bale (born 30 January 1974) is an English actor. In addition to starring roles in big budget Hollywood films, he has long been heavily involved in films produced by independent producers and art houses.

Bale first caught the public eye when he was cast in the starring role of Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun at the age of 13, playing an English boy who is separated from his parents and subsequently finds himself lost in a Japanese internment camp during World War II. Since then, he has portrayed a wide range of characters. Joe Strummer

John Graham Mellor (21 August 1952 – 22 December 2002), better known by his stage name Joe Strummer, was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead singer of the English punk rock band The Clash. He was also a member of The 101ers, The Mescaleros and The Pogues.(At the age of 9, Strummer and his older brother David, 10, began boarding at the City of London Freemen's School in Surrey.)

Anthony Hopkins

Ewan McGregor

Ewan Gordon McGregor (born 31 March 1971) is a Scottish actor who has had success in mainstream, indie and art house films. Stephen Fry

Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English actor, writer, journalist, comedian, television presenter and film director. He first came to attention in the 1982 Cambridge Footlights Revue presentation "The Cellar Tapes", which also included Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson and Tony Slattery. With Hugh Laurie, as the comedy double act Fry and Laurie, he co-wrote and co-starred in A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and the duo also played the title roles in Jeeves and Wooster.

He first reached fame as one half of the Fry and Laurie double act, along with his friend and comedy partner Stephen Fry, with whom he joined in the cast of Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster from 1987 until 1999. Since 2004, he has been starring as Dr. Gregory House, the protagonist of House, for which he has received two Golden Globe awards and several Emmy nominations.
