Film Noir
Noir is atmospheric. All about those shadowy dark turners no one's supposed to turn. All about those darkly lit places no one's supposed to tread.
Lurking in those corners are always those dames- all brains, beauty, and trouble-, darkness, a whole other world one can't back from.
Those tough talking, seemingly unbreakable "heroes' always tread there, always get sucked in.
Never heeding the voices of their pretty little conscience, the girl that loves and loves and only gets her heart broken in the end. Maybe they're blinded by the shadows? Or maybe poisoned by the cigarette smoke?
Noir's another world, a land of fiction. But it's fascinatingly gritty and real. With all it's familar characters.
The Femme Fatal, The Anti-Hero, and the poor Good Girl.....

Femme Fatals

"Phyllis: There's a speed limit in this state, Mr. Neff. Forty-five miles an hour.
Walter Neff: How fast was I going, officer?
Phyllis: I'd say around ninety.
Walter Neff: Suppose you get down off your motorcycle and give me a ticket.
Phyllis: Suppose I let you off with a warning this time.
Walter Neff: Suppose it doesn't take.
Phyllis: Suppose I have to whack you over the knuckles.
Walter Neff: Suppose I bust out crying and put my head on your shoulder.
Phyllis: Suppose you try putting it on my husband's shoulder.
Walter Neff: That tears it. " -Double Indemnity.

Anti-heroes

"I never saw her in the daytime. We seemed to live by night. What was left of the day went away like a pack of cigarettes you smoked. I didn't know where she lived. I never followed her. All I ever had to go on was a place and time to see her again. I don't know what we were waiting for. Maybe we thought the world would end." Jeff- Out of the Past.
