Predicting the Winners of the 2013 Emmys

And the Emmy goes to...

**30 Rock**

Let's all take a moment, and try to remember anything about these comedy series that was notable this previous year (excluding Girls' moneyshot). I'm not saying that they were bad, in out the ones I saw, they were quite good. What I'm saying is that they weren't really involving, and didn't really set the pop culture world on fire. Modern Family has one the last three years, and has a great chance to win again this time, but it's starting to go stale. While I didn't see it, from what I've heard, Girls second Season was pretty up and down, and just barely secured a nomination. While most everybody admires Louis C.K., I think he as a better shot in other categories than here, particularly because I find it hard to believe that they would give it to a one man show. Veep probably has the weakest chance of winning. Yes it's good, but not winner material, not yet at least. The Big Bang Theory is to me the closest competitor to 30 Rock this year. It recently won the Critic's Choice award for Best Show, and it's ratings have never been higher. But I just think, taking into account that it is the last season of such a beloved show and that it got more nods than any other comedy, that 30 Rock wins its fourth and final.

Was I Right: Nope. Modern Family it's 4th.

It's pretty close, but I think Bad eeks it out. Downton Abbey has the worst chance, it's season was the weakest of the six nominees. Mad Men seems to have lost it's awards luster, and probably won't win again, save for a final season. Homeland is the defending champ, but most viewers found it's second season a bit too over-the-top. House of Cards and Game of Thrones are probably Breaking Bad's closest competitors, and either of the three could win, but I think the sympathy factor will rear it's head, and give Bad it's first Series win after four nods.

I've never been good in this category, I'm simply going by the fact that it's got movie stars and a movie director. That's usually the winning formula.

I know that The Daily Show has won for the past decade, but it's gotta lose eventually right? The likely successor being Colbert, and considering that he's been on a roll since the presidential election. The Daily Show will probably win, but I have a gut feeling that the streak will end this year.

I think 30 Rock is gonna have a big night, but I could be wrong. If anyone beats Baldwin, it would be C.K.. Many believed that he was to win last year, only to shockingly lose to Jon Cryer. Bateman could sneak in if they split the vote, but that's usually unlikely. Parsons has won a couple, and will likely win again, just not this year. Cheadle and LeBlanc really don't have much of a chance, but this category usually surprises.

Was I Right: No. Jim Parsons won his 3rd.

Like I said, I predict a big night for 30 Rock. Julia Louis-Dreyfus won last year, and judging by Veep's continued nomination growth, she's still in the academy's mind. Poehler's long overdue, but it's just not her year. Dunham could win, but the perceived dip in Girl's quality will probably limit that.

*Jon Hamm- Mad Men
*Damian Lewis- Homeland

This is an extremely difficult category. Bonneville is the only one I would say has no chance, and Daniels is quite unlikely too. From there, it's a four man race. I think Lewis gets knocked out for the up & down Homeland season. Hamm at this point just seems like the eternal bridesmaid, and Spacey can play conniving prick in his sleep. Cranston's won three times before, but it still seems the voters love him.

Homeland's supposed drop in quality won't stop Danes from winning her second straight.

Douglas's role is the most showy, and that usually wins out, but this category is historically odd.

Lange had the most material to work with, and won one last year. She's not a lock, but she's certainly the favorite.

It's hard for me to see Bowen win a third straight, especially in a weaker year. But since the Academy clearly loves the show, I think they'll keep it in the family, and hand it to Vergara. Other scenarios; If 30 Rock really starts winning everything in sight, then Krakowski could take it, or Glee sympathy could give Lynch the win.

This is probably more wishful thinking, but I honestly believe that Hader will win this one. They could also, and probably, go with one of the Modern Family guys, who have owned the category for the last three years.

This one's probably my only true guess, because I have no clue. I'm going with Gunn simply because things are looking good for Breaking Bad, and I think the "Maggie Smith because she's Maggie Smith" mentality is wearing off. Hendricks could win too, though I don't see much of a shot for the other three.

I feel that voter sympathy, for the fact that he was snubbed last year, and a stronger season for the character will carry Patinkin to a win. Paul won last year and had another strong season, but I feel that if Breaking Bad were to win, Banks gave the stronger performance. From what I've heard, Dinklage, who still had a strong year, didn't get enough screen time to do much damage.
