Funny People (2009)
The gist of it: Not the usual Sandler movie. A comedy about a person who is going to die and finds the better part of himself. Or, does he? At the same time, a drama about the sometimes sad world of funny people, stand-up comedians. All in all, makes you smile and think about life, rather than being sad.
The good: Not the kind of silly movie that made people hate Adam Sandler as an actor. Film director Judd Apatow mixing comedic lines with drama brings original results and finally makes Adam an interesting guy to watch on the screen. He finally plays a real character. Sort of "autobiographical" about Sandler not really satisfied about some of the roles he played in the past. Seth Rogen, Eric Bana, and the others in the cast are not bad either
The bad: Neither fish nor fowl, this mixed bag may disappoint both those who just expect big laughs and those who look for extremely serious drama.
