"Who do you think you are?"
"In India, we don't think who we are. We know who we are."

This was a pretty funny movie. Peter Sellers was really funny as the leading role and it's another movie that shows off his acting talent very well. It is kind of dated, but it's really more dated in the sense that this is really the kind of movie that could've only been made back then and if they ever tried to remake this (God forbid.) they would have to make a lot of changes to it. That's really what makes this movie good and it's just as funny today as it was when it came out.

"I lost something on the way to wherever I am today."

Gus Van Sant is a pretty odd director. I've seen about 6 of his films and all of them are ones that I've had completely different opinions on, so I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. This was a weird movie, but it was still well-done. I was interested in what was happening for the most part and I did like the whole story of this movie even though it's only loosely based on Kurt Cobain's life. While it is a little boring in certain places, it's still a decent movie that's worth checking out at least once for the more adventurous type, but don't expect too much from it.

"You can't fight what we had together."
"Justin, it was one night. It was a massive mistake. I was drunk out of my mind. You could have been a donkey!"

This was a pretty funny British comedy. It pulls off the hard task of making something as serious as a funeral funny and I just really liked all the crazy stuff that happened in this movie. I really enjoyed this movie and now that I've watched this I don't think I need to see the remake because it's most likely the same movie despite a few changes.

I wasn't too familiar with Key and Peele's TV show and have only seen a couple of their sketches online, but the trailer to this movie was so funny that it won me over and made me want to see it in theatres. It does start off pretty slow at first, but it keeps getting funnier as it goes on. I mean the first half of the movie was still funny, but the second half is when it really gets funny. The cast here does a really good job and there are some great casting choices like Will Forte trying to be a gangster and a few great cameos as well. Even though it starts off slow and the fact that Keanu doesn't appear in this movie as much as I would've liked, I still had fun with this movie and it actually makes me want to start watching Key and Peele's show.

"I've got a confession to make. I'm not really your blind date, Jack."
"What? Are you even 24?"
"No! Add an other 10. I was just merely trying to meet my mate in the modern world."

This was a decent movie. It's nothing too special, but it's a decent movie of the genre. The chemistry between Simon Pegg and Lake Bell is believable, it's funny, and it does have it's heart in the right place. It's a decent movie that's worth watching at least once.

"How's this for a new team name: The Ducks!"
"Please! What kind of Mickey Mouse organization would name their team The Ducks?"

This was an OK movie. This movie starts off with a feel-good scene, but after that this movie starts to get odd. I did like the Looney Tunes aspect of the movie and it does have it's funny moments, but the plot was weak and the mix of Looney Tunes and basketball is an odd combination. It does have it's predictable moments as well, it feels like it's trying too hard to be hip at times and there is some CGI that's aged very poorly, but I still got some enjoyment of this movie. Mainly from making fun of certain scenes, but also because it does have it's funny moments and it's really hard to mess up something as classic like Looney Tunes. It's far from being a good movie and I like Looney Tunes: Back in Action better, but there's still enjoyment to be had with this.

I Am Legend (2007)
May 7

"My name is Robert Neville. I am a survivor living in New York City. I am broadcasting on all AM frequencies. I will be at the South Street Seaport everyday at mid-day, when the sun is highest in the sky. If you are out there... if anyone is out there... I can provide food, I can provide shelter, I can provide security. If there's anybody out there... anybody... please. You are not alone."

It took me so long to see this movie, but there's a reason for it. I've been wanting to see this movie for years, until about four years ago when someone I knew spoiled the ending for me. Usually when a movie is spoiled for me it won't take me too long to get around to watching it, but that's because most of the time I accidentally find spoilers through the internet and most of the time that shit is my own fault anyways. This wasn't the case this time as someone in person spoiled the ending for me and it wasn't until now when I was like "I actually want to see this movie. I don't care that I know the ending, I just feel like watching it."

This was a very well-made movie and I think this is a better telling of I Am Legend than The Last Man on Earth. I was very invested in the story and what was going to happen and Will Smith did a great job as the leading role. It was a really great post-apocalyptic movie that was very well-written and it was just so good that I wish I saw it earlier. Luckily I didn't know exactly how Will Smith's character died and I heard some people say they didn't like that ending, but I personally thought it was a great way to end the movie.

"Geez, what a body!"
"Laura is more than a body."
"Laura?"
"Laura Claybourne, she plays Rachel."
"Sorry, you must really follow this shit."
"No, I write this shit."

Wasn't sure what to expect from this, but since it had a good comedic premise and comic legend John Candy, I was hoping it would be good. Luckily for me, this turned out to be a hilarious comedic gem. I really loved how this movie played out the whole soap opera theme and there were just so many moments that had me laughing out loud. There's not too many problems I had with this movie and pretty much all of them were minor for me. I thought the ending was very predictable, but I thought it was acceptable since most soap operas are like this and this is coming from someone who hasn't even watched a single soap opera. I just know about their predictable and sappy nature. Overall this was a hilarious movie and I'd recommend it to anyone who's loved any of John Candy's other films.

"I have work to do. Read your newspaper everyday and you'll understand."
"Which section?"
"Obituaries."

This movie started off a little slow, but I really started to like it when I noticed something special about it. The more it went on, the more I started to realize that it really felt like a throwback to the vigilante films of the 80's. This movie really looks like it was made in the 80's instead of 2004 which is a good thing as most of the effects in this movie aren't CGI which is interesting to see from a movie that was made around the time when CGI was really starting to take over. I really think they pulled of the origin story of The Punisher very well too and I thought this was much better than the 1989 version of The Punisher overall. It was a very fun movie and it's a shame that The Punisher hasn't really caught on in the film industry as they had to reboot him two times, but then again this was before R rated superhero films became marketable.

"A deranged person is supposed to have the strength of ten men. I have the strength of one small boy... with polio."

While this is far from being Woody Allen's best movie and it's not a movie that a lot of people will put in the same league as something like Annie Hall, Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters or Melinda and Melinda when it comes to Woody Allen's best work, but it's still decent. It was an enjoyable mystery film with a good amount of witty dialogue and a lot of recognizable faces. While this is far from Woody Allen's best movie, I still found quite a bit to enjoy about this film and I'm glad that I watched it at least once.

"Peace."
"Peace is meant to explain a state of tranquility. Ok? So why don't you try finding a way to say goodbye, now that you're among civilized people."
"Well, Mr. Civilized, peace can also be used interjectionally, as a request, greeting or farewell. So, try to find another way to be an asshole, if you don't know your, grammar, that is. Peace."

This movie was so stupid that it's funny. It's a decent movie as far as stoner comedies go and it had it's share of stupidly funny parts and a few clever lines as well. Not the best comedy of it's kind, but it's still fun to watch.

"I may be old-fashioned, but I thought murder was against the law."

I was in a Hitchcock mood, so I decided to watch one that I've been meaning to watch for quite a while. This was a fantastic movie and it might be one of my favorites from Alfred Hitchcock next to Rope and Psycho. It's a gripping story from start to finish, the acting is great even to this day and it's films like this that earned Alfred Hitchcock his master of suspense title. If you haven't seen this movie by now, then rectify this problem as soon as possible.

"We're going to Camp Crystal Lake."
"Oh, yeah? Planning on smoking a little dope, having a little premarital sex and getting slaughtered?"

This entry of the Friday the 13th franchise tends to get a lot of hate and I personally think that it's kind of undeserving of it. The Friday the 13th series has started to feel tired ever since Part IV: The Final Chapter and the only good sequel from part IV to part VIII was Jason Lives, but even that was the standard routine Friday the 13th movie. I feel like this one is the New Nightmare of the series as just like that one, this is a fresh take on such a tired franchise. I like how they made it about Jason's supernatural origins as it is a good way to explain why Jason can't die. Unlike some of the other Friday the 13th movies, this one was actually entertaining and this one also had a good sense of humor. It's a very odd movie and it's not for everyone, but it is the most unique installment of the franchise and if you can look past the bizarre premise then you might find something to enjoy from it.

"What's Brookview?"
"An old folks home; like a prison for old people."

I wasn't sure what to expect from this as I'm not a fan of Melissa McCarthy, but oddly enough I found myself enjoying it a lot more than The Heat, Bridesmaids and Identity Thief. Unlike those movies, this one was more consistent when it comes to laughs and quite a few of them actually made me laugh which is more than I can say for the aforementioned films. It does have it's funny moments and Susan Sarandon's character is funny and is what made this movie. On the other hand though this movie is one of the most cliche films ever made. This movie nearly reuses every cliche in the book and the plot is mostly your standard road trip movie. Not all of the jokes work either and some of them go on for way too long. Still, it's a passable movie and it's nowhere near as bad as the low scores would indicate.

Also since Melissa McCarthy co-wrote the script for this movie, it proves that Melissa McCarthy can be funny. It usually just depends on the script she is given.

"You're out of your mind."
"What's your point?"

This was a decent thriller that does this plot a lot better than 88 Minutes did. It had a good script, great performances from Johnny Depp and Christopher Walken was a great villain here. I also was invested in the plot and where it was going and I was going to give this movie an 8/10 at first, but the reason I didn't is because the plot started to fizzle a bit around the hour mark and the premise does feel a bit too gimmicky at times. With that said it's still a good movie and I could probably see myself watching it again. I just wish it maintained the same level of quality that the first hour had.

"They're still running with shields down."
"Of course! We are one big, happy fleet! Ah, Kirk, my old friend, do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It is very cold in space!"

I was never really into Star Trek for the longest time as whenever I watched it on TV no matter what version it was, it failed to interest me. Then I tried watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture 5 years ago, but I stopped about 10 minutes in because I wasn't in the mood for it and it didn't really win me over. I have been wanting to actually watch it from start to finish, but I still have yet to and the not so positive reviews it has gotten over the years hasn't been tempting. I never attempted to watch any of the other Star Trek movies since I wanted to start with the first one, but then sometime it dawned on me that if I was going to get into the original Star Trek movies, I might as well start with The Wrath of Khan.

Before I move on, I want to say that my only real exposure of Star Trek before this was the more recent ones and now that I've seen this I can safely say that this one is better than the J.J. Abrams Star Trek films. It is a great movie with a very inventive storyline, the cast does a great job of playing their respective characters and it was very engaging from start to finish. There was even one part of this movie that managed to disturb me a little and that was the earworm scene. It's the best Star Trek movie I've seen so far (Although I doubt any of the other ones can top this.) and I'm now more interested in checking out all the other ones from the original series.

"Oh, shit! My stomach in my ass."
"Oh, yeah, you're ready for the streets."
"This gun should be banned."

I avoided this for a while because I thought it looked stupid from the previews and because I don't think Kevin Hart is that funny, but since it was on Netflix I decided to watch it like I do with any other movie I initially had no interest in seeing. I actually thought this movie was funny. Sure it's has the standard buddy cop formula with all it's cliches, but it still had it's share of laughs and Ice Cube and Kevin Hart both made a decent team. It's not the best movie of it's kind and there are better buddy cop movies that you could be watching, but if you're just looking for any kind of movie then there are worse one you could be watching and you might get some enjoyment out of it if you're a fan of these kind of movies or a fan of the two leading roles. I liked it more than I thought I would and I might see the sequel just for the hell of it even though I'm not expecting that one to be good.

"I'd rather let Queen Latifah shit in my mouth from a fucking hot air balloon."

I was actually looking forward to this one, but when it started getting negative reviews I decided to wait until it was available to rent. Now that I've seen it I don't think it's as bad as the reviews made it out to be. Some of them even went far as to call it Robert De Niro's worst movie which is a huge stretch in my opinion. De Niro has been in way worse movies than this one like Little Fockers, Meet the Fockers, Righteous Kill and Killing Season. Not only were those bad movies, but it just looked like Robert De Niro didn't give a shit in any of these, while in this one it looked like he was having the time of his life. I thought he was the best part of the movie as he had so many lines and as wrong as it sounds I actually liked seeing him play the role of an old perverted grandpa. Also Zac Efron wasn't half bad in this movie and it's probably his best performance to date even if that isn't saying a whole lot, but it shows that he can do alright when it comes to comedic roles even though he still can't really act. Even though this is far from being an original or groundbreaking comedy movie, it's still funny and it's really not that bad as everyone says.

"I need your help. I can't tell you what it is, you can never ask me about it later, and we're gonna hurt some people."
"...Whose car are we gonna take?"

I had this movie on DVD for way too long, so I decided to finally fix that by watching it this month. Just like all the other films Ben Affleck directed this one blew me away. It had very strong storytelling that was reminiscent of Gone Baby Gone which is a very good thing, the acting was great all around especially from Ben Affleck, well-written dialogue and an ending that just blew me away. It didn't have quite everything for me to give it a perfect score, but despite that this might be my favorite out of all the films that Ben Affleck directed (Although that is really tough to choose as Gone Baby Gone and Argo are just as good as this movie.) and I'm proud to own this movie in my collection.

"Tell her they may soon be leaving us. Leaving us for a long, long journey. How is it that Shakespeare says? "From which no traveler returns." Great poet."

I decided that I should see the original The Man Who Knew Too Much before I see the 1956 version that Alfred Hitchcock made himself. This was a decent movie, but I think it might be the weakest film I've seen from him so far. It still was well-written, the performances were pretty good and it did have an interesting story, but it also hasn't aged well compared to Hitchcock's other films and there's really nothing too special about it. Still, it's a movie that I'm glad I saw at least once and it's worth watching at least once if you're an Alfred Hitchcock fan.

"Oh, then he's certainly not going to enjoy that treat I just fed to him."

I can't believe how underrated this movie is. It was a very funny spoof of The Fugitive and I can't see how anyone who enjoyed The Naked Gun series would not enjoy this as well. This movie has the same type of humor as The Naked Gun trilogy with it's gags-per-minute ratio and stupidly clever jokes. Leslie Nielsen is also great as he is most of the time and he's also what makes this movie funny. It's a very underrated spoof movie that's been wrongfully accused of being an average film.

Zoolander 2 (2016)
May 27

"I'm going to retire, withdraw from public life, and become a hermit crab."

Once upon a time I first watched a movie called Zoolander when I was 8 and I liked it, but as time went on I barely remembered what happened in it. I even questioned if I actually watched the whole thing or not because I had such a small attention span at that age. In March of 2015 Zoolander 2 was officially announced at a fashion show after rumors of a Zoolander sequel have been circulating the internet for years. I watched the original Zoolander in January of this year since the sequel was coming out the following month and I thought it was hilarious and it felt new to me and was sure at this point that it was a first-time viewing. Then when Zoolander 2 came out the reviews were overwhelmingly negative and I was thinking to myself "It can't be that bad. After all the trailer looked funny."

How very wrong I was as this movie was horrendous and it reminded me that just because a trailer makes a movie look funny doesn't mean it will be funny. Sometimes jokes are just funny in the trailers and won't be funny in the actual movie and this is the case here. Where do I begin? This movie was so unfunny that I was in a state of shock with terrible joke after terrible joke that it makes me wonder if I'll ever laugh again. I knew this movie was in trouble when this movie started off with Justin Bieber being chased by people on motorcycles that want to kill him. I mean, I knew he would be in this movie because of the trailers, but the fact that this is the first scene was a very bad sign.

It all goes downhill from there and the movie becomes only more and more painful to watch. The characters from the first Zoolander were very unlikeable as well as they went from being models who were stupid, but likeable and funny as well to their stupidity being cranked up to 11 and being as annoying as possible. This movie also tries way to hard to be hip with having jokes about selfies and adding more cameos including many that have already faded away from relevancy except that already makes this movie dated from the day it was released while the original Zoolander is timeless.

You know what this sequel is starting to remind me of? Anchorman 2 and while watching it I was contemplating if this was worse or not and when it was over I decided that yes, Zoolander 2 is worse than Anchorman 2. Even though Anchorman 2 was more concerned about cramming in as many jokes as possible instead of taking the time to figure out what made the first one funny and the fact that none of the jokes made me laugh at all, but at least Anchorman 2 had jokes and at least it was trying to be funny. I'll admit that this movie did at least have one part that I thought was kind of funny and that was Susan Boyle's cameo, but even that's pretty sad when something like that is the only funny part of this shit.

Zoolander 2 was a mistake. Zoolander 2 was an abortion. Zoolander 2 was a mistake that could've been prevented if it just used protection instead of pulling out. Fuck Zoolander 2 and fuck comedy sequels that sounded good on paper, but turned out to be complete disasters!

"All right, sorry. My bad."

Even though I'm starting to get over the whole superhero craze and not as excited for superhero movies as I was a few years ago, I was still highly anticipating this one and after seeing it I can say that it does not disappoint at all. It's an awesome movie that delivers exactly what it promises. It had some of the best action sequences in a superhero movie in quite some time, the characters were fleshed out very well and it has some good humor as well, but it also doesn't overdo it like some of the more recent Marvel films. I also loved how it doesn't take itself too seriously and just has fun with this concept which is a huge plus as some of the more recent Marvel superhero movies took themselves a bit too seriously. Not only was this a great superhero film, it was also the best Captain America movie and it's one of those rare times when the third one is the best in the series.

So, I turn to spit it out and put it in a paper cup. I turn back, and Amanda McKinney throws up all over herself. I knew the moment it happened, it was a miracle. I could have been kissing her when she threw up. It would have scarred me for life. I may never have recovered."

This seems to be one of Shyamalan's more polarizing films. Some people really like it while others think it was when M. Night Shyamalan started to go downhill. After finally seeing it I thought this was a very solid sci-fi thriller type of movie. It was a very chilling experience with an interesting scenario, very good acting especially from the likes of Mel Gibson before he went crazy, Joaquin Phoenix and Abagail Breslin who delivers an excellent performance especially considering how old she was at the time and it was a very well-done movie from start to finish... well, almost. I already knew about the twist ending years before seeing this movie and yeah it was pretty stupid and pretty anti-climactic. This was around the time when M. Night Shyamalan just abused the fuck out of twist endings because they worked so well in his first two films, but after a while they started to get formulaic and felt like he was just reusing twist endings from his previous efforts and tweaked them just a little bit. Still, it's a very solid film even if the twist ending is dumb.

"Yeah, I wanna make sure that you're okay."
"What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you not see that I'm bad for you?"

I've heard good things about this movie when it came out and I had it on my radar for quite some time, but after seeing it I just don't get what's so good about it as it's mostly much your average teen romance story. The acting was OK as far as these kind of movies though, but I'm not a fan of Miles Teller or Shailene Woodley which I fail to see the appeal of both of them. The writing isn't that great either. Once again it's OK, but nothing special although there was some instances of clever writing every now and then and the ending is not as predictable as I thought it would be and that's the strongest point of this movie, but it's not enough to make it good. Overall it's a very average movie with a few redeeming qualities, but it's nothing special and it's a little hard to believe that the same guys who wrote something as genuine as heart-felt as (500) Days of Summer also wrote this and are now mostly writing typical teen love stories. There's nothing spectacular about this Spectacular Now.

"Die Muppets?"
"It looks like the reviews are out early."
"Or maybe that's the suggestion box."

This movie is pretty overhated judging from some of the reviews I've seen it seems like they're picking weak reasons for not liking it by saying that it could've been better or isn't as good as the original. Of course it isn't as good as the original. That doesn't mean it's bad. The movie itself states that at the very beginning that it won't be as good as the previous film. This movie does what The Muppets does best which is entertain, make the audience laugh, breaking the fourth wall jokes and very catchy songs that will get stuck in your head for days. If there's any actual problems I had with this it would be that it does kind of feel like a rehash of The Great Muppet Caper at times and I do think Walter could've gotten more screentime. I mean he's far from the greatest character or anything, but it just seems weird that they'd introduce him in the last movie only to occasionally acknowledge his existence in the sequel. Other than that though the hate for this movie is pretty overblown and I pretty much got what I expected from this.

"Come on, man, we brothers; wouldn't have you working for me. We'd be partners."
"What, selling that shit? Are you that dumb?"
"Who the fuck you think you're talking to, man? This ain't Nutso. This ain't that dopehead on the roof taking orders from you. This ain't your same little brother following behind you trying to go outside. You ain't the motherfuckin' man no more. I'm the one! Shit has changed! It's a new day, bro. If you can't clean up your act, I suggest you raise the fuck up and get the hell out of Dodge... or get caught up."

This was a decent movie. It's not too different from your standard sports movie, but it does have a decent script, some good performances and the soundtrack in this movie is very good. I was more interested in the story elements than the actual basketball theme, so this film didn't completely work for me, but I was glad to watch it once and it was a decent enough movie to end the month on.
