1st show through the end of the 1990s
Listed more or less in the order I saw them in for the first time. With a lot of the nu-metal bands and other artists I wasn't much into it's hard to keep track of exactly when I saw them. :P
1st show I ever went to. He played a state fair when I lived in Illinois (late 80s), & my parents took me. They got me into his music.
the giraffe's rating:
Starting with my love affair with Metal in the latter half of the 80s, once I heard Metallica ('87) they were my favorite band. That changed once I heard the Black Album, as well as started getting into the alternative wave that started in 1991, but I went ahead & saw them anyway in summer of '94, which was my 2nd show ever. Missed the openers, but I enjoyed their set. Glad I went too since after that I REALLY quit caring about them.
the giraffe's rating:
Seen many many times, but my 1st was when they opened for NIN in October of '94. They used to be amazing live, but the older Manson gets the further downhill they slide.
the giraffe's rating:
Their show in October of '94 remains my all-time top show ever. Followed closely by their Dallas performance in 2006 with QOTSA and DFA79. Hands down the best live band I've ever seen.
the giraffe's rating:
They opened for Manson on their '95 club tour. Great energy, but not great musically.
the giraffe's rating:
Also opened for White Zombie in '95. Think I saw them once more after.
the giraffe's rating:
Saw them twice in '95 and a couple times in '96 before they broke up. Always a great show.
the giraffe's rating:
Loved them for a couple of years, then they quickly went downhill and I eventually came to hate them.
the giraffe's rating:
Had no urge to see him, but watched him anyway since he played a local festival and I had nothing better to do. He was OK. Highlight was when he played "physical (you're so)" which he co-wrote with Trent Reznor.
the giraffe's rating:
One of my all-time favorite bands. 1st saw them w/Helmet as the opener, and kept going back to see them ever since.
the giraffe's rating:
Had the good fortune to see them headline their 1st club tour (with the amazing & underrated/forgotten Die Cheerleader, who should also be on this list). Saw them again when they opened for White Zombie in late '95. Then once more when they toured behind their 2nd album, after which I quit paying attention to them.
the giraffe's rating:
Opener on the Bowie/NIN tour in '95. The whole set sounded like feeble attempts to imitate NIN. Hated them.
the giraffe's rating:
Amazing, especially the part where he came onstage to do a few songs with NIN. Then NIN left the stage & Bowie carried on with his set.
the giraffe's rating:
Amazing when they opened for Pantera on New Years Eve '96. Awful when they headlined their own show a couple years later.
the giraffe's rating:
One of the best Metal bands ever. Saw them countless times when I lived in their hometown. They always killed it.
One of the best bands, live or recorded. Saw them enough times to become friends of theirs & earned a permanent spot on their guest list.
the giraffe's rating:
Dallas band that should have been huge but never made it. The first time I saw them I wasn't much into them, but I saw them again about a month later & fell in love with them permanently. Managed to see them 7 times I think before they broke up.
the giraffe's rating:
The first time I saw these guys they walked on stage dressed all in white, the guitarist rips into this sick riff, and the lead singer yells "You're gonna die!" before the rest of the band kicked in. Soon I found myself in a moshpit so intense I had to leave a few songs into their set.
Baboon remained amazing up until they started focusing on "maturing" their sound...I never dug it, & soon their live shows weren't insane anymore either & I quit caring about them.

the giraffe's rating:
Opened the first time I saw Gravity Kills & Sister Machine Gun. Horrible...just horrible.
the giraffe's rating:
Sure they were basically a NIN clone, but they put on great shows every time I saw them. Met them too & they were decent dudes.
the giraffe's rating:
Only saw them once. Impressed enough to buy their album Burn, which I still regularly listen to.
the giraffe's rating:
1st time I saw them (as openers for Bad Religion in '96) I liked them. Then I forgot about them until the radio started playing them in the early '00s, saw them once more & hated them.
the giraffe's rating:
So much fun live when they opened for Bad Religion in '96. That's the only time I saw them.
the giraffe's rating:
Since '96 I've been going to see his spoken word performances. Always thought-provoking, insightful and entertaining.
the giraffe's rating:
Another NIN clone, but for the most part they put on solid shows. They did, however, suck when they opened for Depeche Mode and when I saw them after their last album came out.
the giraffe's rating:
Love love love love love her. Saw her several times during the '90s. Miss her very much.
the giraffe's rating:
Blew my mind when they opened for Rage in '96. Saw them again once or twice in '98. Great live band & very underrated.
the giraffe's rating:
The 1st time I saw them still rates in my top 10. The 2nd time I saw them they were off...Zach couldn't keep up with the band for some reason. Then I didn't get to see them again until they reunited at Coachella, & that show was amazing enough that I forgave them for that 2nd show.
the giraffe's rating:
Saw them a few times. Good energy, good live, but not so amazing that I ever owned an album of theirs.
the giraffe's rating:
Saw far too many times to count. My love for the Rev. has dwindled over the years, but he'll always have my respect.
the giraffe's rating:
Took me longer than I liked to see them live for the 1st time, but after that I rarely missed them again. Since they've reunited I've only seen them a couple of times. Consistently good live, I just feel like I've seen them plenty.
the giraffe's rating:
One of the most original bands out there (and man are they out there). Aside from the 1st time I saw them (the above 3 bands opened that show) their shows were highly entertaining.
the giraffe's rating:
Hated this band. Told them after the one time I saw them play that they sucked. Yes, to their faces. Surprisingly they took my opinion graciously. Ben Kweller told me, "yeah, we get that a lot."
the giraffe's rating:
One of the best Dallas bands ever. They broke up before I could overdose on their live shows, but they've played enough reunion shows now to make up for it.
the giraffe's rating:
One of my favorite Dallas bands, and the only band that's ever let me join them on stage on a regular basis to sing one of their songs with them. I was heartbroken in 1998 when they broke up.
the giraffe's rating:
Hate to admit I saw her, but I did. At least I can say that show SUCKED.
the giraffe's rating:
Saw them more times than I'd like to admit. They were fun at first, but once they started taking themselves seriously I stopped enjoying them. If you have no idea who they are/were, you're better off.
the giraffe's rating:
Seen them a few times over the years. Usually good live, but let's face it after a while all their songs sound the same.

This is as best as I can recall. Missing bands are subject to them being so unremarkable live that I forget if I saw them and Listal's acknowledgement of their existence (there are many I thought of that Listal doesn't recognize). Also, these are somewhat in chronological order of the first time I saw them, though after a while I mostly guessed. I've been to over 1000 shows, so forgetting certain aspects/timelines should be understandable.
I think I saw Chuck Berry in '87 or '88. The rest of this list is 1994 to present.
