Sting!! This is certainly my all-time favorite wrestler. I remember waking up in time to watch the syndicated shows on Saturday mornings in the late 80s to catch Sting. I was so into his character back then...way more than Hogan, for sure!
The Undertaker was the most captivating wrestler when I was a child. He was scary, but I loved watching him. It's crazy that he's still wrestling today.
OOOOOHHHH YEAAHHHH!!!! Macho Man Randy Savage! I did love him in WCW/NWO, but it was his performance against Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat in Wrestlemania III and in the championship tournament in Wrestlemania IV that puts Macho Man this high in the list.
Shawn Michaels was no doubt the Show-Stopper. I do remember being a young kid and seeing him with Marty Jannetty in The Rockers. I remember feeling so sad and betrayed when he slammed Jannetty through that window during an interview. From there, he was a great heel, but, it was the first Ladder Match at Wrestlemania X with Razor Ramon (and the 60-minute Iron Man Match with Bret Hart) that made Shawn Michaels a transcendent superstar.
R.I.P. Davey Boy Smith. I was a huge British Bulldog fan, especially when he pinned Bret Hart in Wembley Stadium in London in 1992. I was 9 years old, and was crazy into wrestling, especially the British Bulldog.
As much as I loved the Excellence of Execution, Bret Hart, it always felt as though it was the bargaining chip to get my sister to watch wrestling with me. One of the most memorable matches (except for the aforementioned Shawn Michaels and British Bulldog matches) was when he beat Yokozuna for the title at Wrestlemania X, after losing to Owen Hart earlier in the event. Great stuff...
From 1988 until around 2003, I was heavily into professional wrestling. A few weeks ago, I was listening to a podcast in which these two guys put forth the most pathetic list of top wrestlers, so, I was forced to make one of my own. This isn't necessarily the "best" wrestlers of all time, these are just my favorite of the 80s and 90s (and a few from the early 2000s).
