Morgan (2016)
Tomatometer Guess: 70%.
Actual Score: 46%. Morgan is not a terrible movie, the acting is solid, the cast is great, the cinematography is well done, and Luke Scott shows promise as a director. Unfortunately, the film is an underdeveloped sci-fi thriller that doesn't fully capitalize on its premise.

The Light Between Oceans (2016)
Tomatometer Guess: 93%.
Actual Score: 60%. Superbly acted and directed adaptation of the novel, but a few might find the film to be emotionally manipulative to enjoy it.

JWR's rating:

Snowden (2016)
Tomatometer Guess: 83%. In what looks to be a comeback for director Oliver Stone, Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in the biopic drama.
Actual Score: 58%. Snowden features a compelling performance from Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the titular character, impressive directing from Oliver Stone, and does its job of making Snowden sympathetic. However, it doesn't fully explore the theme of government secrecy and espionage as it promises.

JWR's rating:

Blair Witch (2016)
Tomatometer Guess: 76%. In the style of 10 Cloverfield Lane, Blair Witch was a movie that came seemingly out of nowhere when it was announced at this year's San Diego Comic-Con and met with glowing reviews.
Actual Score: 42%. I'll say this much about Blair Witch, it's a vast improvement over Book Of Shadows, though that's not saying much. Blair Witch adds some new elements to the Blair Witch mythos, but sadly, the film suffers from being an almost beat for beat copy of the original movie. Only this time with way too many unneeded jump scares.
The movie does slightly redeem itself in the third act, which is legitimately frightening and scary, but overall it's just okay.

Tomatometer Guess: 66%. After finding instant success with 2014's The LEGO Movie, Warner Animation Group's sophomore effort hits theaters directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors).
Actual Score: 62%. Though it leans more towards kids, Storks is a fast-paced, surprisingly funny, and poignant family film with heart. It's not as good as The LEGO Movie, but it ain't half bad either.

Actual Score: 92%. Queen Of Katwe may be somewhat predictable, but it's still a beautifully acted and well-written feel good film that can't be missed.

Tomatometer Guess: 71%. Tim Burton helms what looks like a fun cross between X-Men and Harry Potter.
Actual Score: 63%. Though uneven in pacing, Miss Peregrine is a decent, if slightly underdeveloped film from Tim Burton.

JWR's rating:

The Girl on the Train (2013)
Tomatometer Guess: 82%. In the vein of 2014's Gone Girl, The Girl On The Train is a thriller directed by Tate Taylor.
Actual Score: 49%. The Girl On The Train features A+ acting from its cast, unfortunately, the movie is weighed down by Director Tate Taylor's poor attempts at emulating David Ficher, unlikeable characters, sluggish pacing, and a disappointingly predictable third act.

JWR's rating:

Tomatometer Guess: 86%. Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick star in this Drama-Thriller directed by Gavin O'Connor.
Actual Score: 49%. At first, I was surprised by the mixed reception of this film, until I saw it for myself.
Though most people will agree that the acting from the cast is spot on, and the action sequences are well done, some will be put off by the film's non-linear storytelling and exposition. I enjoyed the film, but I can see why others may not.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)
Tomatometer Guess: 6%. The "long-awaited" prequel to the 2014 original.
Actual Score: 79%. Probably the biggest surprise of the year. Mike Flanagan directs this surprisingly decent and suspenseful sequel that easily surpasses its original.

JWR's rating:

Inferno (2016)
Tomatometer Guess: 17%
Actual Score: 21%. It's just as boring, overlong, and nonsensical as the last two films, only this time, it's made worse by the terrible pacing and muddled plot. Tom Hanks as always is great, but try as he might, he can't elevate this snooze fest.

Though this summer may have been disappointing for movies compared to last year, there's still the fall to look forward to.
