Terminator Genisys (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 19%. The early reviews are in, and they were less than positive to say the least, my only hope is that it's at least mindless action.
Actual Score : 27%. I think that the critics are being a bit too harsh with this one. Don't get me wrong, the plot is predictable (The spoiler filled trailers didn't help much), Jai Courtney is bland as Kyle Reese, and the movie is just a mess. However, Arnold Schwarzenegger as always is fantastic as the Terminator, Emelia Clarke is decent as Sarah Connor, and the action sequences are servicable, if forgettable. If it's any consolation, James Cameron gets the rights back in three years.

Magic Mike XXL (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 53%. While the first Magic Mike was a mix of comedy and drama, the sequel opts to go the comedic route which will likely divide people.
Actual Score : 61%. Magic Mike XXL is a beautifully shot, hilarious, and well acted sequel to the original, even if the road trip story makes it feel a little formulaic.

JWR's rating:

Minions (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 70%. Whether you Love them or hate them, you can't deny that the minions are the stars of the Despicable Me franchise. It's a given that this film will make Billions, but the real question is whether or not the minions can carry a movie on their own for 90 Minutes.
Actual Score : 56%. The first half of Minions has a lot of clever sight gags and dark humor. However, once the minions arrive at Villain Con, the movie loses some of its cleverness.
Whereas the first two Despicable Me movies were for families, Minions is more of a kids film. There's no real story and it's just the minions being silly for 90 Minutes, it starts to get a tad bit annoying and stale.
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to enjoy about it. The animation is nice, Sandra Bullock is fun as Scarlett Overkill, the soundtrack is fun, and I appreciate the dark sense of humor the film has.
Overall, Minions is an amusing (if somewhat forgettable) film that kids will love and adults will be mildly entertained by.

JWR's rating:

Self/less (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 69%. The premise sounds interesting, and the film looks like an intense thriller, here's to hoping it delivers.
Actual Score : 21%. Yet another black mark on Ryan Reynolds' career, Self/Less has interesting ideas, but wastes them in favor of bland action sequences.

JWR's rating:

Ant-Man (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 81%. Even with the troublesome production, Edgar Wright being taken off, and the meh marketing, I believe that Ant Man will surprise many people and be the Guardians of The Galaxy of 2015.
Actual Score : 79%. Ant Man Benefits From Its Smaller Scale story, Fun Action Sequences, And Lots of Heart. It's not a perfect film, but it's still a blast.

JWR's rating:

Trainwreck (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 86%. While Judd Apatow has not been on his A-Game recently, this film has been a critical darling as SXSW and Amy Schumer is the go-to girl for raunchy comedy. So it should be a fun time.
Actual Score: 86%. While it is Hysterrically funny, perhaps the biggest surprise about Trainwreck is that it's not as raunchy or it appears to be, but actually very poingant.

JWR's rating:

Pixels (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 58%. Adam Sandler has been involved in some of the worst comedies in recent memory. However, the premise (though not groundbreaking), and the cast give me a sliver of hope that Pixels will be a watchable movie, but I'm not holding my breath.
Actual Score: 19%. Once again, a potentially funny concept is run into the ground by Painfully Unfunny dialogue, Irritating Performances by the actors, and jokes That Are either too inappropriate for kids or too stupid for adults.

Paper Towns (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 75%. From the creators of The Fault In Our Stars, comes another teen centered romance movie that's bound to have people crying their eyes out when they see it.
Actual Score: 60%.

JWR's rating:

Vacation (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 65%. The self aware nature of the trailer does give me confidence in this continuation of the National Lampoon series.
Actual Score : 28%. Vacation is fine if you're a fan of crude, mean-spirited humor. However, if you were hoping to see the heart and sincerity of the original, give this a skip.

JWR's rating:

Tomatometer Guess : 84%. The fifth film in the Mission Impossible series features all the team members from the previous films (minus Paula Patton) and contains al the hallmarks of the franchise, except for the famous spider monkey pose.
Actual Score : 93%. Action packed, tense, And At Times, Hilarious. Mission Impossible is more proof that the series has progressively gotten better since MI3.

JWR's rating:

Fantastic Four (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 73%. From day 1, this film has been met with scrutiny and trepidation from fans of the comic. Understandably so, since the last outing failed horribly. Nevertheless, we can only hope that it makes for an entertaining film.
Actual Score : 8%. Fantastic Four is a joyless and horribly written film. The film starts off decently, slows down in the middle, and completely falls apart by the end. Stay away from this film at all costs.
Edit: After some re-thinking, I honestly think that this is the worst version of the Fantastic Four yet. At least the Tim Story films were somewhat entertaining and felt like Fantastic Four.

Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015)
Tomatometer Guess 74%. You might be wondering why I added this film to the list, and there's two reasons. One, it appears to have the same charm, wit, and humor as Aardman's other films. Two, it was either this or the horribly redubbed train wreck Underdogs.
Actual Score : 99%.

Tomatometer Guess : 43%.
Actual Score : 93%. Tense, well acted, and cleverly written, The Gift is a perfect showcase for Jason Bateman's dramatic acting chops, as well as Joel Edgarton's potential as an actor/director.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 75%. Judging from the history of other tv shows tuned movies, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. could either go the route of The Equalizer or The 1998 Avengers
Actual Score : 66%. While uneven, The Man From U.N.C.L.E is a fun and at times humorous throwback to the spy films of the 60s.

Tomatometer Guess : 73%.
Actual Score : 88%. While it does leave out a few details about the group, Straight Outta Compton is a well acted, well written, and timely film about NWA and perfectly captures their influence on the Hip hop scene.

JWR's rating:

Hitman: Agent 47 (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 44%. The first Hitman was a poorly written pale imitation of the games. While this new film probably won't be much of a masterpiece, it does look fun.
Actual Score : 5%. Although the action is well choreographed, the acting is bland, the special effects are painfully obvious, and the script (written by the same guy from the first Hitman movie) is terribly written. In the end, it's yet another mediocre movie based off a video game.

JWR's rating:

Sinister 2 (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 57%.
Actual Score : 13%. While not as terrible as its score might indicate, Sinister 2 suffers from rehashing the same story beats and scares of the first film, leading to a watchable but predictable horror film.

JWR's rating:

American Ultra (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 78%. Jessie Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart star in what looks like a clever mashup between The Bourne Identity and The Pineapple Express.
Actual Score : 46%. American Ultra has a creative premise, but the film doesn't live up to its potential and opts to use said premise for the sake of stoner jokes.

JWR's rating:

We Are Your Friends (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 39%. Zac Efron stars in what looks like Entourage for the Mllenials generation.
Actual Score: 42%. While Zac Efron and Wes Bently are good in the movie, it suffers from unlikable characters and a boring predictable rise to fame and fall from grace story. It doesn't help that it's horrible paced and contains a misguided message about cheating your way through life.
This brings the summer movie season to a dull and tepid close. But don't worry, there's plenty of jucier offerings this fall.

With June coming to a close, it's time to move to the second half of the summer and predict which ones will be the biggest hits, the biggest flops, and the biggest surprises.
