B-movie with brains, style and attitude

"I don't give a fuck about your war... or your president." With its restrained direction and deliberate pacing, 1981's Escape from New York may be a tough sell to contemporary viewers accustomed to fast-moving, exciting action flicks. However, it's hard to express just how badass and enthrallingly atmospheric this movie truly is, which is a credit to John Carpenter's abilities as a cinematic craf... read more

There was a time when John Carpenter was rolling one classic after another and, with this in mind, I was really eager to check this flick. Honestly, I was expecting a lot from this flick as it looked really awesome and even apparently, Kurt Russell himself has stated that this is his favorite of all his films and Snake Plissken is his favorite of his characters. Eventually, I thought it was indeed... read more

Too lacking in action for an action film

Snake Plissken probably made more kids come in the 80s than Pamela Anderson did in the 90s. Regardless, I never saw this film depicting his mission to retrieve the president of the US out of a barren prison, AKA New York. Finally someone requested me to review this film and I had to watch it. I didn't mind much, seeing as how I liked Carpenter's work overall (Cigarette Burns and Halloween especial... read more

" Escape from New York is a 1981 American science fiction action film co-written, co-scored and directed by John Carpenter. It stars Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Adrienne Barbeau, and Harry Dean Stanton. The film's storyline, set in the near-future world of 1997, concerns a crime-ridden United States, which has converted Manhattan Island in New York City into the country's sole maximum-security prison. Air Force One is hijacked by anti-governmen"

“(MU) Carpenter reestableciendo géneros, inaugurando filones, o formatos dentro de los filones, qué bueno es para eso. Aquí esta todo, la misión imposible, del héroe que desciende al infiero y se redime salvando al presidente frívolo, NY distópico....” read more

Pros and Cons of Films: Vol. 1 (121 movies items)

"Pros: Kurt Russell, as Snake Pliisken. It’s a dark, cynical take on the future. The music by John Carpenter. New York City, is very dark and dangerous In the movie. Lee Van Cleff, Donald Pleaance, Adrienne Barbesu, and Issac Hayes, as The Duke. It’s one of my favourite John Carpenter films. "

" Date: 7/10/2021 Viewed: Blu-ray Re-watch Note: Today is the 40th anniversary of Escape from New York and it was the perfect time to revisit it. Escape from New York is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time because it has left a huge impact on me growing up. I first watched Escape from New York back in 1996 when they were airing it on TV to promote Escape from LA and I have loved it ever since. I consider Escape from New York to be one of the best action films of the 1980s in my opinion"
