Robert De Niro is horrifying in his role as an ex-con looking for revenge on the lawyer that failed to keep him out of prison. I was surprised however to find out that Martin Scorsese directed the film. The black and white negative spots littered throughout just don't work for me.

I had already seen this movie but since it was ages ago and since I had this movie on DVD, I was quite eager to check it out again. In general I avoid seeing remakes of classics, but when the name "Martin Scorsese" is plastered all over the poster even I cannot resist the urge to check it out. I'm glad I did, because Scorsese's version of Cape Fear is extremely well-done. The direction is simply flawless and elevates the outstanding performances by Nolte, De Niro and Lewis.
