The Bests
yup, loved them for one reason or another, you can see my excitement for them :D
Just like seven psychopaths, I didn't want this movie to end. What a brilliant movie. So this is how it went
I was bored, had a bad day and nothing was working for me any more so I thought to watch a movie and chose this and then I forgot about my day and laughed like a maniac and had a great time.
Well, how to begin. hmmmm Peter Sellers rule in this movie. He is everywhere and you don't mind that in fact you love him and his roles and I have to mention Gerorge C scott as well. He played the general role brilliantly and made me laugh so much.
There is something fun in watching grown men act like kids in a dire situation and still taking themselves very seriously and when movie ends you are like oh my God, what the hell did they do?
This movie has some really funny catch phrases. My most favorite line was
and
"Now calm down Demtri, how do you think I feel about it"
and and oh one more, (at the height of all tension and drama, US president is talking to Russian premiere and he says)
"Fine, I can hear you now Demitri, clear and plain and coming through fine.I am coming through fine too, eh? Good, then, well then, as you say, we're both coming through fine. Good. Well, it's good that you're fine and I am fine. I agree with you, it is great to be fine"
and yes one more
"I am as sorry as you are Dimitri. Don't say that you are more sorry than I am because I am capable of being just as sorry as you. So we are both sorry, all right?"
and one more when in the end our favorite british officer shouts at the officer,
"Shoot with the gun! That's what the bullets are for, you twit!"
ha ha!
It is such an awesome movie and brilliantly acted that you have to love this movie and laugh, all the while hoping that it doesn't happen in real life.
Highly recommended.
Mein Fuhrur, I can walk.

This movie at first doesn't make sense.
Apes come on screen for like 15 mins: they make tons of noise and jump around trying to do God knows what, and basically test your patience then one ape/monkey finds a stick and you go, bravo man! finally something and well basically before your know it, sequence changes. The next sequence start and takes you to a small journey and when you go ok ahh this is going to happen, another sequence starts, again another engrossing sequence annnnd then just when you think you got it, another starts and the whole movie is like that but with stunning visuals and amazing background music score.
When it all ends, you stare at your screen (that is if you are not going to go to the washroom) and you wonder, what the hell happened. What the heck did I watch and then at night you try to solve its puzzle. I spent 1 week thinking about this movie and finally it dawned to me what happened.
Kudos for making me think about it for a week...

Annie Hall (1977)
Annie Hall is brilliant and smart. Everyone likes it for their own reason but for me, I like seeing it and getting amused by the fact that how Woody Allen basically breaks every rule about film making and still manage to make us love this movie.
I love how he takes you back to past, breaks the fourth wall, talk to you right in the middle of scene and basically places you right where he wants you to be: on a whimsical ride cause life is like that mostly or you wish it to be.
Kudos!

Oh man, where to begin...
I am a HUGE Sergio Leone fan. I love watching his movie and adore his style and genius even more than Kubrik's. How does he do that?
I find it hard to watch movies, sometimes in one go. I get bored and my pseudo-ADD gets kicked in and yet his movies and those long sequences still keep me engrossed even in this modern age.
Ok enough with my fan girling: this movie is very masterfully shot, brilliantly acted and beautifully paced on screen.
As usual we have a stranger come to town with a vendetta but against who, we don't know. We have a bad ass villain, beautiful heroine and you know what this is enough to convince you to go watch it if you haven't already so I am going to go for quotes.
Frank: How can you trust a man who wears both a belt and suspenders? The man can't even trust his own pants.
It is a treat to watch. Such staging!

City of God has a brilliant chicken catching scene that I have never seen, done at that exceptional level, in any other movie.
It is about struggle, love, passion and getting to do what you want to do all the while knowing that if you fail, death is going to embrace you.
I highly recommend this movie to all those people who like to watch beautifully shot movies with a crafted screenplay and story that touches one's heart.
my most favorite movie quote
Sandro Cenoura: Have you lost your mind? You are just a kid!
Filรฉ-com-Fritas - Steak and Fries: A kid? I smoke, I snort. I've killed and robbed. I'm a man.
This movie will make you think about human psychology and how far as humans we are willing to go for things that we want.
You also learn to appreciate your life more.

Zaishe's rating:
This movie does lots of things very interestingly. I was amazed at the way the director and screenwriter decided to reveal this story to us, audience because in the end, it is a very simple, emotional story but they make it so intense and so engaging that when it ends, it leaves a strong impression on you.
It starts itself in present day with a woman who is living like an outcast in the society.
She deals with trauma in daily basis and even when she gets a happy news, the happiness never stays long. We are told nothing about her but then the past starts coming into light and we see two different timelines unfolding in front of us and this keeps you interesting in the movie till the very end.
I don't want to discuss it more, but I do recommend it to people who take interest in storytelling in cinema.
Eva: You don't look happy.
Kevin: Have I ever?

Argo (2012)
I know some people that just hate this movie: they tell me how at times this movie doesn't quote the actual events right.. how it dramatizes some events and then much to those people dismay Michelle Obama went ahead and presented award to it herself and my friends hated it even more but all arguments aside, I liked the movie.
It is a hollywood movie, of course it is going to change historical facts, twist events, dramatize tension and exaggerate gestures...what else will it do if not this? This is movie not documentary.
I liked this movie, it was thrilling and engrossing. My heart was beating in the final act and my hands were gripping the chair so tight... I don't normally do that so for that very fact, this movie is here.
It has a cool sequence where Led Zeppelin song plays on screen. I was like wow. :D
(fan girling much? :D )
Lester Siegel: Argo fuck yourself.

The Imposter (2012)
I started watching this movie with like "whatever" attitude like yeah yeah, there is going to be an imposter and well he is going to go through stuff and all but 5 mins in and I was completely engrossed in this documentary. I wanted to know what was going to happen. How did he do this? How is he going to go through this situation and all and this was a thrilling and interesting ride that kept me engaged till the end.
It fascinates me in lot of ways. Seeing someone pull through something like this is an adventure in its own especially when most of us can't even fake an accent or a gesture in life. Highly recommended.

Seven Psychopaths (2012)
I was so sad when this movie ended cause this movie was so much fun to watch. I wanted it to be longer and funny enough never ending... ok not never ending (one has to go to washroom at some point) but wow! had hell lot of fun watching it.
The best thing about this movie is that it never takes itself very seriously. They make fun of movies and then exactly do that in this movie all the while knowing they are not supposed to do so and this creates some very interesting and at times hilarious situations.
But all that drama being a drama queen movie, doesn't stop them to do some really great character developments and see to it that all gets wrapped up nicely in the end. It has some very intense scenes, so don't take this movie lightly. Ok I can't praise it more now :D
This ^ image goes really well for this movie.
Some of my favorite quotes (taken from imdb):
Paulo: Put your hands up!
Hans: No.
Paulo: What?
Hans: I said no.
Paulo: Why not?
Hans: Because I don't want to.
Paulo: But I've got a gun...
Hans: I don't care.
Paulo: It doesn't make any sense!
Hans: Too bad!
another one:
Zachariah: You didn't think I was what? Serious? You think I'm not serious just because I carry a rabbit?
ok ok one more :D
Billy: Five... Four... Three... Two...
Charlie: Wait! Please go back to five. Please...
Billy: I'm not going back to five, man. I'm not going back to five. Five...
last one, seriously!
Billy: You can't let the animals die in a movie... only the women.

If you look at the movies, this movie is sharing its position with (dr. strangelove and 2001: a space odyssey) you might wanna question my movie judgement :D but I assure you that in comedy genre, this movie is really good.
It deals with self absorbed, egocentric, mean celebrities and how they deal with an apocalypse-like situation. It is hilarious and there are some bits that really made me laugh out loud.
Like there was this one time when everyone is panicking and whole crowd of celebrities and wanna bes are screaming, Michael Cera jumps out from the crowd and ask them to listen to him. "Ok guys, this is very important", He says and everyone looks at him for some kind of solution and he says," so who took my fucking phone?"
and everyone goes
The end is pretty cool adn you are not going to forget how you see Channing Tatum in this movie lol.
Do watch this movie, seriously! :)
This quote tells you all about movie
Danny McBride: Hermione just stole all of our shit. And Jay suggested that we rape her. I think the only reason he did that is because he knows he's about two minutes away from becoming the house bitch himself.

"That rug really tied the room"
This is the line that I use when I talk about my room rug.. needless to say that it has some quotes in it that you feel happy to use in life and then when you see that others don't get the punch, you proudly pat yourself, on your back, for having a better movie taste.
The whole movie is a fun ride. You start knowing the dude, then you get to know about his friends, his rug that gets peed on and hazzah, the whole whirlpool events start happening and in the end you start calling everyone Dude.. with a hope that someone might call you one as well and annoy the hell out of your friends :D cause this is what this movie is about.
I think I spoiled the whole movie, lol
Maude Lebowski: What do you do for recreation?
The Dude: Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.
Oh and it has this amazing music sequence in it that is just... so out of place. :D

I had a hard day, didn't sleep well last night but got dragged to cinema with my friends to watch Hobbit annnd I loved the movie.(after watching the second, I am loving it even more) I forgot everything and told myself, I am going to allow myself to be happy here, right now. I laughed a lot during this movie, many times I gripped my seat because the visuals were AWESOME and seeing two of my favorite actors (Ian and Martin) was a treat in itself.
It misses some beats when you watch it at home so it is a cinema movie.
I do believe after watching second movie that this should have been a 2 movie story and they are kind of milking us viewers but I really really hope they resurrect this series in third part :)
Back to hobbit 1.
-Loved the architecture of dwarfs place.
-Did not get the hype 48fps
-awesome stone giants fight. (forgive me, I don't remember proper name)
-cool sequence between Bilbo and Gollum
-ring is back in it
-Gandalf
-wood wizard (lol forgot his name)
-giant spiders
-trolls
oh well you get the point, I liked it all. :D

I love movies where actors perform with dead pan beat. They don't show much emotions and are mostly unaware of situations they are in or they don't care cause they are so self absorbed.
I love Napoleon Dynamite movie. I love how it is so ordinary: it is all about napoleon and his family and friends and his daily life. That is it but it is fun and has some very interesting sequences that are engaging and make your happy. At least they made me happy :D
My brother hated it though so it is not for everyone. :/

Kahaani (2012)
Kahaani is a mesmerizing tale of a woman. Telling anything more would be spoiler.
I watched this movie because I am Vidya Balan fan. I love her acting, I love how she depicts the very essence of women in sub-continent with just the right touch.
The whole screenplay is engaging. It is beautiful to look at and you get to see a side of Indian culture as well. The movie puts you in the shoes of a travel partner where you see her going through several situations.. you make friends and enemies and just when it all is about to conclude, you get a surprise that makes you judge everything you have seen before.
I don't like many Indian movies but this is the one I usually find myself recommending to even English speaking friends.

Raanjhanaa (2013)
Raanjhanaa has a killer first act, a somewhat good middle and again a killer end.
It does lots of things right. It keeps you engaged in it by showing you characters that are just like you or you know someone who is like that. It makes you laugh, cry, whine and curse during its run time and you love this movie when it ends.
Who would not like A.R.Rehman music eh? What a treat!
and the biggest reason for this movie to be here is that I cried like a baby in the end. There I said it. :/

The Master (2012)
This movie is like reading a novel. I am one of those people who genuinely believe that Joaquin Phoenix is one of the very few acting legends that we have the honor of sharing our movie era with.
He and Hoffman rule in this movie. They fascinate you and you get dragged into their whole journey with each other. Enough said.
Not made for everybody though.
Lancaster Dodd: If you figure a way to live without serving a master, any master, then let the rest of us know, will you? For you'd be the first person in the history of the world.

Red Lights (2012)
I watched this movie with my bestie without knowing anything about this movie and we both liked it because it deals with magicians and how do they pull these tricks and has a twist in the end that if you watch, you will instantly think of few recent movies that did the same thing. I rated this movie higher because for me, this twist made its appearance through this movie.
I call this twist, red light twist.
I love Sigourney Weaver and Deniro so it was a plus.
Simon Silver: You will know the truth, and the truth will make you furious.

Side Effects (2013)
I liked side effects because I like psychological dramas and cheering for the protagonist when he finally cracks the code.
It is mainly about 3 people. 2 Psychologists and 1 patient. That's it.
One orchestrates the moves and loves to see the other psychologist dance to it. The whole movie is about the struggle to break free from that dance and get to the root.
The only complaint I have is that the movie takes too much time setting up events. It could be better paced.
Dr. Jonathan Banks: [about electroshock] It's in our best interest that you start forgetting.

A Royal Affair (2012)
She is a smart, beautiful, literature loving, open-minded and freedom loving girl. She gets chosen to go and marry the King. She is nervous meeting him for the first time and contemplates the topics she wants to discuss with him. She believes she needs to match her wits with him but the king is not exactly how she envisioned but rather much more.
This is a long movie and it gets quite complex in the middle. You see too many things going on and I didn't like that BUT I loved some sequences and acting is brilliant so if you have time, do check it out.
Mads Mikkelsen is a treat to watch.
Caroline Mathilde: But you never remove your mask. Do you?

Lootera (2013)
I have stopped counting the times, this movie got recommended on Paksitani aspiring videographers pages.
It gets praised on cinematography, the setting, the atmosphere, the acting and the music. It captured the fascination of aspiring directors and story tellers alike so you can understand the hype with which I went ahead and watched the movie, in fact, I waited for this movie for months after watching its trailer. It is beautiful.
It didn't disappoint me but it didn't fascinate me either.
It started with a beautifully crafted first half which went cold in second half and then again picked it up in third half and shows lots of heart that you wish you had seen before in second half as well.
Still, a very good indian movie.

There was a time when lots of people were watching this movie and for a week, I kept seeing tweets and facebook posts about this movie. It got the mods of approval from lots of reviewers and many people found themselves relating to it.
This movie is really good. It unfolds itself brilliantly and having the writer direct it, suited it. The tunnel scene is delighted to look at, the music is fascinating and it is a treat to see characters making mix tapes cause I used to do so... but for me, it didn't click as much. I don't know why it never takes me in. I remain an outsider and thus it is not in my best movie section.
oh by the way, try not to debate over Emma Watson's accent. Oh and Logan Lerman's acting is so good that it'll make you forget the dreadful Percy series.

Hitchcock man!
I plan to watch more of his movies..soon I guess.
I liked this movie mostly because I was so fascinated by the actors and their manners on screen. You don't get to see that now. I mean this movie has no "Fuck" can you imagine? :D Even when we get the murderer, he doesn't go all gangsta yelling Fuck and giving us a face palm image :D
The reason for it being not in best list is that Charming as it is, it doesn't have any 2nd viewing wish from me but having said that, still a classic piece..still rocking and still mesmerizing.
Tony Wendice: [to Mark] People don't commit murder on credit.

Only Two Can Play (1962)
I am a HUGE Peter Sellers fan.
and I love posting his photos wherever I can :D
ok back to movie
It is all 60 feel movie with some funny situations, an over-bearing darling, a boring library where Peter tries to bring humor in and succeeds many times with his sarcasm :D I'd love to watch it with my bestie.
Peter is amazing as usual, you see. God! I am fan girl and terrible at that too.
so overall had good time watching it.
Salter: Am I to take it then that none of your family have ever been involved with plumbing?
John Lewis: Well, as a matter of fact, my father once had an unfortunate experience on Euston station during the blackout. Uh, what happened was... You see, it was dark at the time and he didn't realize that the train was actually standing at the station at the time... Apart from that, no.

The Pink Panther (1963)
oh the Pink Panther.. who hasn't heard about this movie. Every person loving comedy movies, has watched it and why not, it is the first chapter of a series of Pink Panther movies.
I was personally not that impressed. I find it too creepy when an old person kisses half his age girl on screen. I know love has no age but I feel weird. The whole movie for me gets divided into two parts.
a: Peter Sellers part
b: Non Peter Sellers part.
B's are boring, sometime stretched longer than they should be.
A's are fun. Every time Peter comes on screen, it is bubbly all over. It is funny and engaging and clever.
So A's and last chase scene makes this movie memorable and funny. :)
Inspector Jacques Clouseau: At times like this, I wish I was but a simple peasant.
Simone Clouseau: It's times like this that make me realize how lucky I really am.

Les femmes du 6e รฉtage (2011)
Such pretty full of heart movie.
It is the time when Spanish women are working in France as house maids to earn enough money to ensure a better future for themselves and their families later.
Most of them are in Middle-age, they live on 6th floor and tend to their employers houses who are rich.
Our heroine however is very young and she gets assigned to take care of our main family and then everything gets a new touch. It is the story of meeting people, making friends, falling in love and realizing that life has t o be lived than passed.
I love this movie. Do watch it. :) It is so charming and haaa so heart-filled.
This image speaks a lot about this movie. :')

Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993)
Yes, I know it is a spoof but it works really good. Modern spoof makers should get some lessons from here.
So many memorable parts but if I start putting them down, you'd lose the charm when you see them first time in movie.
Robin Hood: And who might you be?
Little John: Oh, they call me Little John. But don't let my name fool you. In real life, I'm very big.
Robin Hood: I'll take your word for it.

interesting story, brilliantly acted BUT boring at times, slowly paced and by the end when all puzzles fit into their right places, I was like oh finally movie is ending. Not a good thing but for story and all that clever plotting gets a 7 from me.

The Royal Tenenbaums (2002)
I love Wes Anderson movies but this movie didn't do that magic to me so that's why it is not in best section.
Family reunion is what this movie is all about but with a Wes Anderson-y touch.
Royal: Anybody interested in grabbing a couple of burgers and hittin' the cemetery?

Again, in its own genre, it is really good.

I watched it little too late. though kudos to Sean Penn for great acting.

Bernie (2011)
Kudos to Jack Black for taking this role and seeing to it that he does fair job to it.
Whole movie is a charming tale of Barnie which gets a twist in the end but overall I liked it. Had a good time.
I loved the accent with which town people were speaking... it made the whole movie more charming.
Townsperson: Well, I know the Bible says Jesus turned water into wine, but it didn't say liquor store wine. It had to have been non-alcoholic wine, because it didn't have time to ferment

I wish more movies are like this with desi settings, witty dialogues, fox like heroine and man, who would not like Naseerudin acting like this and singing song "aisi uljhi nazar un se hatti nahin". I was so happy while watching this movie. Who wouldn't.
The only reason it is not in Best section is that it got slow somewhere in middle and then was backed up again but yeah could have been better edited.
Do watch.

Imagine you are watching a guy descending from a stair case, moving in a rhythm, then just when you think rhythm is going to be done and the guy is going to reach the floor, he stops and instead jumps from third step. Whole rhythm gets disturbed and it just ends.
This movie is like that... it just ends... and such a shame for that.
Kudos for main character actor, excellent performance.
Maximillian Cohen: Something's going on. It has to do with that number. There's an answer in that number.

Before you lash out, I am a huge fan of Cornetto trilogy and Simon Pegg but this movie was stereotypical and all that humans are not perfect and this is awesome kind of thing bored me and is so 2005. This movie disappointed me :/
Andrew Knightley: I still think nothing that has been suggested in the last 10 minutes beats 'smashy smashy egg men'.

When I read the book, zombies seemed so real that at one point, I got up, scared, and checked my windows and doors because I felt that at any moment, some zombie would jump in.
Movie did nothing like that.
Great action sequences though.
Captain Speke: Looks like we just woke the dead. In that respect, please turn off all pagers and cellphones.
