The most pretentious film ever made...

2001: A Space Odyssey is incredible mess of movie, the writers Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke obviously felt that a lot of random uninteresting long scenes make a whole film. It has a plot which doesn't go anywhere: In the opening scene monkeys learn the use of the bone as a weapon, it then suddenly cuts to a man on a spaceship who we follow for about an hour and then disappears totally from... read more

"Good morning, Dave."

Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey is a truly groundbreaking, unforgettable, incredible science fiction experience unlike any other film you are ever likely to see. Kubrick is a true visionary, and the entire film is a visual feast that will be devoured by the eyes of science fiction fans.

Many filmgoers will look upon 2001 as a load of tri... read more

Description: Humanity finds a mysterious, obviously artificial, object buried beneath the Lunar surface and, with the intelligent computer HAL 9000, sets off on a quest. The film deals with themes of existentialism, human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, and the possibility of the existence of extraterrestrial life. Today, 2001: A Space Odyssey is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made. In 1991, it was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. Sight &am ... "Hermosa. Tiene el apartado técnico mas hermoso e impacable que haya visto en una película, por lo cual cumple perfectamente con su fin de ser película de aventura y exploración por los fondos extravagantes en los que se desarrolla la película, y por si fuera poco, da mensajes de evolución humana que dejan sin palabras hasta el critico mas estricto, por lo cual también cumple con su otro fin de ser un drama. Simplemente me dejó anonadado lo que el esfuerzo y dedicación puede llegar a cre"

"12.9. Teatteri Uusintakatselu. Tää on varmaan MAAILMAN paras elokuva tai toisteks paras tai jotain. Tästä puuttuu ainakin toistaiseksi syvän henkilökohtainen, peräti ihan kasvusidonnainen, suhde minun minuuteeni, mutta voi juku tää on upea. Pitkälti toista kymmentä vuotta olen pitkittänyt uusintakatselua riittämättömäksi kokemani television ruudun pinta-alan vuoksi. Kohtuuttoman pitkäikäinen haave valkokankaalta katselusta on nyt koettu. Olen sanaton."

"2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY - STAR GATE TO STARCHILD Though there are many who find his films too coldly clinical, few could deny the impressive diversity of Stanley Kubrick's filmography which includes historical epics, psychosexual dramas, searing anti-war treatises, an iconic horror film and pitch black comedies. Sandwiched between two of the latter, '2001: A Space Odyssey' was a shockingly different kind of film which used striking visual imagery to examine the continuing evolution of humankind a"

1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (1960's) (153 movies items)

" Notes: It is probably the most highly regarded movie directed by Stanley Kubrick and you might argue that this movie is the mother of all the Science-Fiction movies that came afterwards. Indeed, even if you think it's slow and boring, you can't deny it has visually inspired all the S-F movies that came afterwards. Here, Kubrick made a visually spellbinding feature and went metaphysical and it completely worked. I mean, the last 15 minutes are probably the most exhilarating piece of cinema I ha"

"Stanley Kubrick's classic sci-fi drama, reissued to celebrate its 50th anniversary, is still an awe-inspiring experience on the big screen. The future of mankind is in the balance after a mysterious object is found under the moon's surface, leading to an expedition to Jupiter, guided by a computer with an ulterior motive. Considering the time this film was made, it is a masterpiece of cinema, even if it still baffles and frustrates. Having it back on the big screen is a cinephile's delight."
