''There will be no order, only chaos.''

A paranoid mathematician searches for a key number that will unlock the universal patterns found in nature.
Faith in Chaos.

I never really understood all the fuss about this film. On the one hand I thought it had a lot of things going for it, such as a stunning soundtrack by the extremely talented Clint Mansell (as well as some Autechre to boot) and some top drawer acting, particularly from Sean Gullette. His representation of the troubled genius was nothing short of magnificent. It's a shame he gets such a small role ... read more

Maximilian Cohen, a mathematician, believes there are patterns everywhere in nature. Because of his studies and research in which he tries to predict the behavior of the stock market, he is chased by a Wall Street company, and by an orthodox Jew follower of the Torah, who believes that these numbers are sent by God.

I can't say the performances impressed me, nor did the directing.<... read more

"13th of December, DVD En ole enää vähään aikaan osannut arvostaa Aronofskyn tuotantoa samalla tavalla mitä ennen. Mutta Pi on tästä huolimatta yksi väkevimmistä ensiohjauksista ja selkeästi miehen paras ohjaustyö. Estetiikaltaan tämä muistuttaa paljon Eraserheadin kyberpunk-henkistä kaksoisveljeä ja kantava teema ihmistietokoneesta on kuin suoraan William Gibsonin tai vastaavan tieteisromaanista. Vimmaiset kamera-ajot sekä karu mustavalkokuvaus välittävät päänsärkyjä aih"

Movie Reviews (351-400) (50 movies items)

" An impressive debut about a man's decent into mathematical madness, even someone who hate math can love this film. It is filmed in glorious 16mm black and white photography with hypnotic electronica music that draws me in. Excellent frenetic editing and use of camera. Excellent comments about religion and nature itself and about finding order in chaos. The ending is like an echo of another favorite of mine, "Videodrome". While it tries to be meaningful, smart and intelligent it is unforgiveable"

"2014/01/14 First viewing @home w/ Kendra on dvd Very, very weird. It was entertaining, but I'm not sure I really enjoyed it. I was happy to share the oddity of the experience with Kendra, but that might be about it. Not sure if it was just supposed to be an arty movie that was purposely obtuse."

500 Essential Cult Movies (502 movies items)

" Shot in high contrast black and white in New York City, Pi's rapid cuts are powered by a driving drum and bass score by Clint Mansell- quite an odd choice for such a technical film. Sean Gullette makes for a fascinating lead, racked with obsessive compulsions and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Not quite science-fiction or science-fact, it is still a stunning, award-winning debut from a great modern talent. "
