The Fifth Element (1997)
February First: Fantasy/Sci-Fi Friday!
Rewatched (Blu-ray)
This is a very good movie starring Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, Milla Jovovich, and Ian Holm, just to name a few. The story is entertaining and fun, with great visual effects and costume designs to make it a very well-rounded science fiction movie. I love the fact that it doesn't take it self too seriously! I highly recommend it.
By the way, this movie looks awesome in HD, so if you plan on buying it and have a Blu-ray player and HD TV, get it on Blu-ray.

Marnie (1964)

An Alfred Hitchcock movie that has a rather interesting, yet disturbing, title character. I really liked seeing Sean Connery in a Hitchcock film.

Since it's Groundhog Day, I thought it was appropriate to watch this movie. It is very funny and I really like it alot. Supernatural and other shows have done episodes that paid homage to this movie.

Touchback (2011)
February 3rd: Sports (Super Bowl) Sunday!
1st viewing: Watched on DirecTV

Since today is Super Bowl Sunday, I thought I'd watch a football movie. I have never heard of this one before, but decided to check it out anyway and I'm really glad I did. Not only is it a good football movie, but it's a movie with a great story and life lessons.
The sign in the locker room (in the picture above) really sums up not only football, but life in general...Attitude is Everything!

Varsity Blues (1999)
February 3rd: Sports (Super Bowl) Sunday!
Rewatched (DVD)

I decided to watch another football movie and chose Varsity Blues. It has been several years since I last saw it, which turned out to be a good thing because it was like watching it again for the first time. I really enjoyed all of it, especially the comic relief from characters Billy Bob (Ron Lester) and Tweeter (Scott Caan). The football sequences were really fun to watch and helped to tell a very entertaining story.

The Woman in Green (1945)
February 4th: Mystery Monday!
1st viewing: Watched on DirecTV (Movie saved on DVR)

One of my favorite characters in both literature and film is Sherlock Holmes. I like the fact that he uses deductive reasoning to solve difficult cases.
The Woman in Green is rather interesting mystery that Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and his friend Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) are asked to help solve by Scotland Yard. It is very enjoyable watching them work together to outwit the criminals. I plan on watching even more Sherlock Holmes films starring Rathbone and Bruce as a result of this one.

It is difficult to describe this movie without giving away too much, so I won't go into detail. I will say, however, that the story was interesting enough to keep my attention. It is definately unlike any Western movie that I've ever seen before.

February 6th: Western Wednesday!

My second Western for the month. A gunslinger returns to his hometown. Sounds good on paper, but isn't that great in execution. It feels more like an episode of a TV show rather than a movie. I'm not saying it was terrible film, it just wasn't a great one. Worth seeing once, but that's about it.

Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
February 7th: Teen Comedy Thursday!
1st viewing: Watched on DirecTV (Movie saved on DVR)
For a long time, I managed to avoid this movie because I was afraid that it was going to be horrible. I finally caved in and decided to give it a chance. To be honest, I really wanted it to prove me wrong, but unfortunately, it didn't happen. For a movie that is supposed to be a comedy, it failed miserably because I didn't even laugh once. Another thing that bothered me was that the main characters (Napoleon, Pedro, and Deb) always looked like they were stoned or at least they were staring off into space. Maybe they were wishing they were somewhere else.

Over the past few years, I have started watching and appreciating older movies a lot more than before. I had seen the remake a couple of times so I wanted to see the original.
This movie is a really good example of how movies should be made, especially one made in 1951. The story is entertaining and suspenseful, but also one that also delivers a strong message to its audience. I really liked everything about it and I highly recommend seeing it!

After watching several sci-fi movies in one day, I needed something different. This movie was one that I have been wanting to see for a while, so I gave it a shot.
The story may be somewhat over the top and unbelievable, but the same can be said for most movies. Harold & Kumar are very likable and relatable, despite their character flaws. More importantly, it is a good buddy movie that has several funny moments.

My fifth Hitchcock film for the month. This is a movie that I've been wanting to see for quite some time and I must say that I was glad to finally have the chance to see it. I really liked the story, the cast, etc. It is probably one of my favorite Hitchcock films.
While watching this movie, I kept thinking of A Perfect Murder (1998), because they both have a similar story. After checking with imdb.com, I found this in the description of A Perfect Murder: "A remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic Dial M for Murder." This was a good thing since I liked both films!

My third Kurt Russell movie for the month and without a doubt, my favorite.
This movie is based on a true story of Herb Brooks (Russell), who leads the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team. Standing in their way to victory is the Soviet team, the number one hockey team in the world. I can remember watching the Olympics that year, especially the hockey games and cheering on the USA team.
Every part of this movie is well done. The entire cast is great. The hockey scenes are exciting to watch. I highly recommend Miracle!

As a fan of Silence of the Lambs and the other movies in the series, I wanted to watch this one as well. Manhunter is based on the novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris.
The movie was actually better than what I thought it would be. The only thing that I didn't like about it was the pacing was at times a bit slow. I still think it was a good movie though.

February 19th: Thriller Tuesday!

Reservoir Dogs shows what a movie with a great ensemble cast should be like. Too many times there are movies made that have a great cast, but have a terrible story. Fortunately, this is NOT the case for this film, because the cast and story were great. This is a must see for any fan of Quentin Tarantino's movies.

Movies I have seen during the month of February 2013 on DVD, Blu-ray, VHS, or on DirecTV.
Last month, I chose movies based on the letter that they started with and watched them in alphabetical order. This month, I chose movies based on their genre and the day of the week. Fantasty/Sci-Friday, for example, followed by Suspense Saturday, and so on. My guidelines are simple: I will watch at least one movie in that specified genre for the matching day. If I choose to watch another movie, it can also be in that genre, but doesn't have to be. This gives me a little more freedom than last month.
As always, you're welcome to comment and give your suggestions. Thank you!
