One of Martin Scorsese's best films is almost completely unknown even by some of his fans who like his most famous films such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Casino, Goodfellas, etc. After Hours is a comedy, but in the Scorsese style, really dark, nightmarish, but still a very enjoyable film to watch even more than once.

Not sure how this one got by me for so long, but glad I finally wised up. Imagine the lead character, Paul, as a straight-laced, nine-to-fiver pinball bouncing around helplessly and erratically through the bumpers, shoots, and ramps of SoHo New York, and you've given yourself a pretty good feel for the pace and unpredictability of this film. A slightly nerdy yuppie ends up going to SoHo one night for what he hopes will be a nice date, but ends up getting caught up in one weird turn of events after another with a menagerie of oddball characters. Soon, he finds himself the accused suspect in a string of burglaries in the neighborhood, becomes the object of a witch hunt by a posse of SoHo denizens, and can't find a way to get back uptown to where he lives.
