NOTE: Was going to wait until Picturehouse’s New Year’s Eve preview instead of renting it despite the influx of spoilers, but Universal, who had already neglected to show it at UK festivals, didn’t want it previewed at the end of the year either. Instead, Picturehouse could only allow us to end 2022 with The Whale. …Yeah. So for my own sanity I had to pay the full price and watch it on my Apple TV before the end of the year. They have their reasons, but the PVOD window and/or the January holdover still need to be abolished.

NOTE: Watching this at home on my Apple TV in December surprisingly worked for me, mainly because of how the film affected me personally. But it hurt worse watching it in a cinema by myself while much of my family had travelled far away to attend my great-uncle’s funeral. But seriously, abolish the 17-day PVOD window.
