Monster (2004)
There aren't many good biographical movies about serial killers in my opinion. Monster does a good job and all the praise for Charlize Theron is well deserved. I'd say it's the best I've seen so far, but even the best movie of it's genre and topic hasn't yet amazed me. Film makers seem to have to make so many creative choices with the original stories and so on, and I still just really prefer the documentary format when it comes to real life serial killers.

It's funny how there are so many great films about fictional serial killers but they are successful and well done maybe because of the fact that they are so far away from the people the story and characters are based on but at the same time you have many similarities. Maybe that's why we love Hannibal Lecter, he has different qualities of different real life killers and there hasn't really been a killer like him in real life (Obviously even the cannibal doctor isn't completely like him).

"So I made a deal. I said God I gotta spend this 5 bucks but when it's gone so am I so, if you got something for me in this life you better bring it on, and there she was."

The Iceman (2013)
Wow, I kind of really dig Michael Shannon. Even when he keeps doing the same kind of roles but he has an interesting diversity even with the same kind of characters. But over all, the film was kind of average... and the mix up between a mafia movie and a thriller felt kind of out of place somehow.

"Mr. Kuklinski, do you have any regrets about the things you've done?"

Wow. Powerful stuff. Humans are so ignorant. I can't even take all those whale cries, man that is tough. And watching all those "accidents", that is freaking terrifying. Like when even the really experienced people get those near mauled to death moments and you see them being all calm but finally when escaping you can just feel that fear when the majestic creature is still coming right there behind them. Geez. People need to see this documentary.

"There is no record of an orca doing any harm to a human in the wild."

I watched this just for Jack White. Also because I kind of came across it in Netflix and didn't have anything interesting to do. Don't like U2, not a big fan of Led Zeppelin but a HUGE fan of Jack White... so why not?

But to be honest the whole doc was cool. Just three talented guys hanging out, one of them being maybe a bit of a fan boy (Jack White clearly adores Jimmy Page as we all know). But all in all a good look at each of their musical history with the occasional great jam session. Good stuff.

OH and that intro was awesome. Seriously.

"The day when you pick up a guitar there's nothing coming through whatsoever. There's no new pieces or new ideas. And that's the sort of gift any creative person has. There's always that point when it might happen to you, when you're too old to pick the guitar up. And we're just trying to keep that day far, far away, and out of sight."

I don't like to call myself a feminist because of the stigma of the whole word and how women have abused the most important part of it, but I do find that these issues are important. For the very least I will defend my own self worth as a woman to the bitter end but this documentary makes good points, basically nothing I already haven't heard. A good basic documentary.

"I worry about how much pressure my daughters feel. In a society that features anorexic actresses and models and television stars, we get conditioned to think this is what women should look like."

What an excellent documentary series that really raises some serious questions about the legal system. Sometimes it is hard to believe that these things still happen. It's outrageous. It's not just a matter of the West Memphis Three being innocent, it's more about the fact how there was hardly any hard evidence against them and still they were sent to prison. And one even received a death sentence. There was so much prejudice and emotions involved that these three couldn't get a fair trial. I'm glad they got their freedom but the case is still unsolved and I think that's pretty upsetting.

"If I focused on the things I can't change, the things that have hurt me, what people have done to me, then they would have already broken me. They would have killed me inside and out. I can get up in the morning and I don't feel sorry for myself, I don't hate my life."

I am going to submerge myself in the controversial topic of the West Memphis Three. And so far, I've enjoyed the first documentary.

"I knew from when I was real small people were gonna know who I was, I always had that feeling... I just never knew how they were gonna learn. I kind of enjoy it now because even after I die, people are gonna remember me forever. People are gonna talk about me for years."

I haven't had much interest in upcoming and new movies in recent years and I rarely see new films within the year they are released but The Grand Budapest Hotel was always something I had a need to watch. From the moment people started to talk about this new film, I was ready to watch it. And even though I took my time to watch this because of certain financial issues, I am so glad I did manage to watch it. Because The Grand Budapest Hotel was spectacular. Everything from the amazing cast to the breathtaking cinematography was an absolute joy to watch. Being a Wes Anderson fan, I somehow knew I wouldn't be too disappointed but I'm almost speechless because of the beauty of this film. Now I only have one new film to wait for which is of course Sin City 2.

"You see, there are still faint glimmers of civilization left in this barbaric slaughterhouse that was once known as humanity. Indeed that's what we provide in our own modest, humble, insignificant... oh, fuck it."

drugs's rating:
As I expected, the movie had some great and actually funny jokes and such (I've always been somewhat into the Seth MacFarlane humor) but those jokes aren't enough to make a truly good movie. So besides having a few good laughs, the movie wasn't very impressive and lacked consistency.

Rat King (2012)
Um.. So Juri doesn't have a gaming problem... that's for sure. So, the plot was very predictable so the "twist" fell flat and I'm just not sure what to think about the whole thing. I mean.. shit, shouldn't a mother recognize her own son from some random dude who just happens to have same glasses and a haircut. And that wasn't even the only inconsistency. I don't know... it just wasn't that impressive. I wasted almost two precious sleeping hours for this film and regret it. But I should've known better, so shame on me. BUT I did kind of like the scenery in the movie. And the kind of depressing feel of everything.

Carrie (2013)
As I expected, the whole movie was just blah. It lacked the truly terrifying feel of the original movie. In the original movie, Sissy Spacek showed so much emotion with so little, it was just a chilling performance. I'm not saying Chloe Moretz isn't a good actress, and she did the best she could with such an iconic character, but Carrie is just one of those movies that DO NOT and never did need a remake.

"Carrie had some sort of power. But she was just like me...
like any of you. She had hopes, she had fears, but we pushed her.

Deranged (1976)
Well it was funny alright. I'm not even sure how to react to the whole thing. It was funny and creepy and I don't know... Nice and campy. Roberts Blossom was seriously creepy with his performance.

There was no real point to the whole movie. It was just an episode that was too long and too awful. A not so important "ending" to an otherwise decent TV series. I am almost baffled by the lack of any kind of intelligent plot and even though at first you think there is a good plot there, it just falls apart as you go along and all you have in the end is a rushed ending that's supposed to be somehow funny and brilliant. This movie fell apart as sadly as Bryan Fuller's original plans for the show (for example the scrapped plot line about George's dad). Had Fuller himself been in charge of the TV series to the end, this movie wouldn't have happened because the series would've had a decent and probably pretty satisfying ending.

Ah, what a great movie. So good. Winona Ryder is as good as always and Christian Slater is seriously hot.

I was so sure I would like this movie. It seemed like the kind of movie I would like but in the end it just didn't do it for me. Somehow things about it made me uncomfortable in a bad way. I would think that when you mix epic gore with a musical it should be great. But something felt so off about the whole movie and even though I really liked the idea I didn't like the musical scenes like at all (with only few exceptions).

Karla (2006)
I've come to the realization that I'd rather watch documentaries about true crime. And Karla once again proved that. Misha and Laura did a good job but still I'd rather watch the real thing, as in watch a documentary on the subject. That is also why I haven't bothered to watch films like Ted Bundy (2002) or Ed Gein (2000).

To be honest, I'm really not that interested in the case of Karla Homolka And Paul Bernardo.

I can never get enough of good documentaries, especially in this area of interest. I am still so very fascinated by the case of Jeffrey Dahmer so I had to see this one. It did present the basic facts and other interesting things to know and also the fictionalized scenarios gave a nice feel to the documentary. Some of the interviews were great and very informative. All in all the Jeffrey Dahmer Files is a decent document, if you're interested in the subject. I liked it.

Well. For one, I wasn't expecting this to be as campy as it was. So a little surprise there. And, even though I didn't really like the first movie that much, I would rather watch it again. You can do a lot of good with epic gore and overall campiness in movies but The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 did not succeed in doing it. I am to be honest a little disappointed. But I'm still probably gonna be checking out more movies about our friend Leatherface.
