Rousing, thought-provoking sci-fi actioner
Although director John Carpenter masterminded a number of cinematic gems during the 1980s, They Live is arguably his coolest and most enjoyable effort from the decade. Written by Carpenter himself, it's a delightful sci-fi action romp, bolstered by an astute screenplay which mixes social commentary, exc... read more

" Very few directors get to have as spotless a decade as John Carpenter did in the 1980s (spoiler alert: three of his movies show up on this list), and he capped his golden era off with one of his best works. They Live is a quotable, tough-as-nails, and smartly satirical sci-fi/action/horror. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper turns in a performance better than anything fellow wrestlers-turned-actors Dwayne Johnson and John Cena have ever done when he stars as a one-liner-spewing drifter. Meanwhile, th"

“Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those movies that is simple and yet has quite a bit of depth to it. In fact the depth when it comes to the social commentary in this is quite effective and yet entertaining to watch. This is one of my favorite John Carpenter film that really got my attention even when watching it as a kid. The societal study of covert factious regime is the main factor at it's core that drives this story. With deep messages on being blinded by the media, entertainment and what politicians has to say. All are manifestations created by aliens to subdue and control the human race. It's actually compelling. Sure it has the B movie vibe going for it and can be corny at times but the corniness actually makes this more of a fun ride. Instead of it being overly serious an” read more

" Date: 1/16/2022 Viewed: 4K UHD Re-Watch Note: Today is John Carpenter's birthday, so I decided to watch They Live in 4K UHD in honor of his birthday. They Live is still a great classic because it is timeless. They Live is jam-packed with action, kick-ass characters, and memorable dialogue. It's one of those films that I could watch all day and never get tired of. The fight scene in the film between Roddy Piper and Keith David is one of the best fight scenes ever. It'd be impossible not to br"
