Dunkirk (2017)
Feeling both minimalistic and yet grand, personal and yet epic, this unique war film is a raw, visceral and intense experience, that showcases amazing visuals, a pounding score, and breathtaking pacing, which helps overcome the admittedly basic characterization.

An engaging, brutally entertaining, and masterful sequel, that builds upon the world set up in the first film, in an intensely satisfying way, resulting in an even greater film, and one of the best straight-up action films of the decade.

garfield2710's rating:
Beautifully directed, fast paced, and exhilarating, Baby Driver is a love letter to both chase action movies, and music, a combination that works remarkably well, resulting in a very entertaining experience.
9.6/10
9.6/10
garfield2710's rating:
It may not be the most original film in the world (the film is clearly inspired by "Reservoir Dogs"), and it may have a few nitpicks, but this minimalistic, and well directed, contained action film, is extremely entertaining, slick, and successfully stretches its seemingly paper-thin plot, to feature length, with relative ease.

Logan (2017)
Perhaps not the next "Dark Knight," but really close, this is a dark, brutal, and entertaining film, that is a much different and refreshing take on the superhero genre, with great performances, a really good (if slightly flawed) script, and spectacular, and bloody, action fight sequences.
9.3/10
9.3/10
garfield2710's rating:
This film is an arthouse psychological thriller, mostly to its advantage, but sporadically to its detriment, but this film is unconventionally terrifying, well acted, and beautiful looking.

Logan Lucky (2017)
Almost diabolically smart, and an entertaining tale to boot, this movie shows that Steven Soderbergh has not lost his touch, and with luck will continue to make great films.
9.1/10
9.1/10
garfield2710's rating:
Ugly, grim and unpleasant (and I mean that in a good way), this nihilistic and guiltily enjoyable film, is stylistic and slick, and Robert Pattinson gives his best performance to date.

James Gunn tries to make lightning strike twice, and is mostly successful, even if the 2nd act kind of meanders for a little bit, but this is an exciting, entertaining, and fun movie, which boasts both some of the MCU's best antagonists, and climax.

The Lego Batman Movie (2017)
Fast paced humor, often hilarious, and beautifully animated superhero parody, this film doesn't quite reach the same level of pathos as the previous LEGO movie, but is nevertheless a fantastic and welcome addition, and hopefully the start of a surprisingly great franchise.

garfield2710's rating:
The film has the same playful tone as the original film, with high-octane action sequences, funny moments and a great cast, that is only brought down by a slightly overlong running time, and some minor logic holes.

Ghost in the Shell (2017)
The first act is a touch too confusing, however, once the film gets off the ground, it is consistently visually stunning, complex, and gripping, and boasts an incredible performance by Scarlett Johansson.
