2017 Films Ranked

Sort by: Showing 1-50 of 128
Decade: Rating: List Type:
Brilliantly crafted, filled with complex and interesting characters, led by great performances, especially Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell, haunting, captivating, entertaining and surprisingly really funny, this marks the high point in filmmaker Martin McDonagh's already impressive film career.

Dunkirk (2017)
Feeling both minimalistic and yet grand, personal and yet epic, this unique war film is a raw, visceral and intense experience, that showcases amazing visuals, a pounding score, and breathtaking pacing, which helps overcome the admittedly basic characterization.

An engaging experience, a mostly brilliant script, and a visual treat, this incredibly well made sequel expands on its predecessor, features fascinating, complex and likable characters, and is one of the best directed and technically flawless films of the year.

9.8/10
garfield2710's rating:
An engaging, brutally entertaining, and masterful sequel, that builds upon the world set up in the first film, in an intensely satisfying way, resulting in an even greater film, and one of the best straight-up action films of the decade.

People who added this item 844 Average listal rating (637 ratings) 7.2 IMDB Rating 7.6
Beautifully directed, fast paced, and exhilarating, Baby Driver is a love letter to both chase action movies, and music, a combination that works remarkably well, resulting in a very entertaining experience.

9.5/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 174 Average listal rating (116 ratings) 6.4 IMDB Rating 6.3
It may not be the most original film in the world (the film is clearly inspired by "Reservoir Dogs"), and it may have a few nitpicks, but this minimalistic, and well directed, contained action film, is extremely entertaining, slick, and successfully stretches its seemingly paper-thin plot, to feature length, with relative ease.

Logan (2017)
Perhaps not the next "Dark Knight," but really close, this is a dark, brutal, and entertaining film, that is a much different and refreshing take on the superhero genre, with great performances, a really good (if slightly flawed) script, and spectacular, and bloody, action fight sequences.

9.3/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 311 Average listal rating (232 ratings) 6.4 IMDB Rating 6.2
This film is an arthouse psychological thriller, mostly to its advantage, but sporadically to its detriment, but this film is unconventionally terrifying, well acted, and beautiful looking.

Wonder Woman (2017)
Bright, colorful, and old-fashioned, this marks the first truly great DCEU movie, with Gal Gadot making a truly fantastic lead, incredible action sequences, and a great script helping to lead the way.

9.2/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 360 Average listal rating (264 ratings) 7.5 IMDB Rating 7.7
While the premise may be a touch too generic, the film more than makes up for it with fantastic acting, a smart script, and beautiful direction by Taylor Sheridan.

Logan Lucky (2017)
Almost diabolically smart, and an entertaining tale to boot, this movie shows that Steven Soderbergh has not lost his touch, and with luck will continue to make great films.

9.1/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 295 Average listal rating (211 ratings) 7.6 IMDB Rating 7.3
Ugly, grim and unpleasant (and I mean that in a good way), this nihilistic and guiltily enjoyable film, is stylistic and slick, and Robert Pattinson gives his best performance to date.

James Gunn tries to make lightning strike twice, and is mostly successful, even if the 2nd act kind of meanders for a little bit, but this is an exciting, entertaining, and fun movie, which boasts both some of the MCU's best antagonists, and climax.

garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 478 Average listal rating (372 ratings) 6.8 IMDB Rating 7.3
Fast paced humor, often hilarious, and beautifully animated superhero parody, this film doesn't quite reach the same level of pathos as the previous LEGO movie, but is nevertheless a fantastic and welcome addition, and hopefully the start of a surprisingly great franchise.

The Big Sick (2017)
It does frustratingly follow some of the rom-com conventions, but the film is a highly intelligent, and even mature comedy, making it the rare comedy that is genuinely poignant.

8.8/10

People who added this item 877 Average listal rating (662 ratings) 7.3 IMDB Rating 7.7
A great reinvention of a classic story, twisted on its head, this is a great horror outing from Jordan Peele that is creative, well acted, and mostly smart, with only some nitpicks holding it back from being phenomenal.

8.7/10
garfield2710's rating:

8.6/10
garfield2710's rating:
The film has the same playful tone as the original film, with high-octane action sequences, funny moments and a great cast, that is only brought down by a slightly overlong running time, and some minor logic holes.

It (2017) (2017)
Some subplots feel pointless, but this horror film is smart, filled with likable main characters, and has some legitimately scary moments.

8.5/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 254 Average listal rating (176 ratings) 6.9 IMDB Rating 7.1
The editing and camerawork can be distracting, but that aside, this is an extremely entertaining, and outrageous film with smart and clever writing, and a great lead performance by Tom Cruise.

8.4/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 351 Average listal rating (231 ratings) 6.9 IMDB Rating 7.2
Nowhere near as memorable, or as meaningful as the first film, but feels like a natural continuation of the story, with a well written script, creative scenes, and offers a satisfactory conclusion, without feeling cheap.

The film occasionally gets a bit ridiculous, but Shyamalan's haunting atmosphere, and James McAvoy's magnetic performance(s), keep the film surprisingly grounded, resulting in a frightening, intelligent, and most shocking of all, even subtle horror film.

8.1/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 623 Average listal rating (436 ratings) 5.7 IMDB Rating 6.3
The first act is a touch too confusing, however, once the film gets off the ground, it is consistently visually stunning, complex, and gripping, and boasts an incredible performance by Scarlett Johansson.

8.0/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 113 Average listal rating (74 ratings) 6.3 IMDB Rating 6.9
The second act muddles a little bit, but this is a mostly powerful film that expresses so much through character actions, deftly handles it's complex and realistic characters, and is led by a powerful performance by Jake Gyllenhaal.

Extremely well acted, emotionally driven, and fascinating, this imperfectly paced film offers us an illustration of an imperfect family, in a way that stands out.

7.9/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 399 Average listal rating (282 ratings) 5.7 IMDB Rating 6.6
Implausible, ridiculous and stupid, but also well shot, entertaining action scenes, and cheesy to the nth degree, make this a fun ride.

Megan Leavey (2017)
Aside from some minor nitpicks, this is a powerful, well written and well acted war drama, that is genuinely moving without being manipulative, and offers Kate Mara's best performance to date.

7.8/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 17 Average listal rating (11 ratings) 5.5 IMDB Rating 6.1
Doesn't quite take advantage of its brilliant set up, but is still a witty and subversive take on marriage and infidelity.

People who added this item 74 Average listal rating (49 ratings) 7.7 IMDB Rating 7.6
Maudie (2016)
A deliberately slow paced film, this extremely low-key biopic manages to capture both the melancholy and the small joy in poverty.

7.7/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 5 Average listal rating (4 ratings) 9 IMDB Rating 6.8
Supposedly generic plot, but wholly unique and entertaining, this hidden little gem is well written, subtly irreverent, charming, and delightful.

Works as a callback to the monster movies of the past, and as a nostalgic escapist adventure, the film is entertaining popcorn fun, that is slightly hurt by some poor editing choices, and predictability.

7.4/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 315 Average listal rating (225 ratings) 6.4 IMDB Rating 6.9
This ludicrous and laughable film, is ridiculous if you stop and think about it, but does genuinely work in with good action scenes and several funny moments, making it a perfect brainless popcorn film.

7.4/10
garfield2710's rating:
Quirky, funny, and surprisingly smart, this adventure is great fun that both kids and adults will enjoy for simultaneously the same and different reasons.

7.3/10
garfield2710's rating:
People who added this item 1002 Average listal rating (749 ratings) 6.7 IMDB Rating 7.4
It's a decently made and more low-key superhero film, that has some pacing issues and pointless moments, but works mostly through the committed performances of Tom Holland and Michael Keaton.
