Entertaining, funny and poignant comedic biopic

Not many bad films are as infamous or as iconic as 2003's The Room, with its shockingly inept filmmaking and tuneless acting positioning the production as a cult oddity - the very definition of "so bad it's good." 2017's The Disaster Artist seeks to chronicle the bizarre story behind The Room's creation, examining the circumstances that led to its second life as a cult phenomenon. Written by Scott... read more

The Disaster Artist is pitched somewhere between star vanity project and reminder of what a gifted comedic actor it’s lead is, so think of it as something that encapsulates James Franco as a whole. It becomes something of an ego-stroking endeavor, as just about anything Franco touches inevitably does, and wants it both ways, to both laugh at and with its protagonist, but it’s still an accompli... read more

Franco has real traces of Wiseau, but has one foot well established on the normal side. The first sequence with him/Wiseau hommaging/mocking Brando screaming ¡Stella! in Streecar named desire, is priceless

BradWesley123's Movie Journal- March 2018 (35 movies items)

" DVD- 1hr. 44min. First Viewing While The Disaster Artist is a pretty fun movie about the making of the worst movie ever, it's also a bit pedestrian, and never truly capture the allure of it's inspiration, The Room. The biggest problem with The Disaster Artist is the it's a rather blandly made film; jittery hand-held, flat lighting, etc. This doesn't seem like a big deal, but it points to one of my major issues, that it's an indistinctly made film about one of the most "original" films ever; bad"

"17.7. The Disaster Artist on rasittavan fanipoikamainen, hassuttelevainen ja halpoja nauruja keräävä tekele. Turhan ilmeisesti näyttää siltä, kuin elokuva olisi vähän turhankin itsetietoisesti tehty suoraan itse Wiseaulle ja kaikille The Roomin fanipojille. Vähemmän hauska tai kiinnostava kuin raskas."

"23.6. (Blockbuster) #leffahaaste2018 Syy The Roomin katsomiseen oli tässä. Onnistuin tehtävässä, sillä nyt vaimoketta alkoi kiinnostaa Tommy Wiseau ja hänen visionsa. Avovaimo myös totesi lopuksi, että hänen tekee mieli katsoa The Room uusiksi. Näytin hänelle, että miellä on hyllyssä The Disaster Artist kirja, josta pidän itse kovasti. Leffana tämä toimi ihan hyvin, vaikka kirja on huomattavasti absurdimpi kokemus. Ei jaksa jupista sen enempää, mutta sanottakoon lopuksi, et"

Movies according to my dreams (56 movies items)

"A sequel was made just a year after the first film, titled "Disaster!" and distributed by Sony Pictures Classics rather than A24, which means they are free to open the film with Tommy Wiseau tricking Philip Haldiman into sticking two fingers up his anus (all while showing Wiseau's anus). Before release, however, James Franco was arrested for crimes of sexual assult and because of it shot himself before he was driven away. I was there. I watched it happen."
