Solid action movie

"You don't have to be Dillinger for this one."

Under the direction of Sam Peckinpah (who's also responsible for the amazing Western The Wild Bunch), The Getaway is both an excellent anti-hero action movie and a solid character study. This 1972 film is often considered one of Peckinpah's most commercial projects, but it nevertheless bears the director's distinctive stamp: a terrific ... read more

A good movie

Honestly, I had some pretty high expectations with this flick. I mean, come on, a movie directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring the king of cool, Steve McQueen, it really sounded great on paper. Indeed, I think that Steve McQueen was a really awesome actor and I try to catch up his movies whenever I get the chance and, this time, he was working with Sam Peckinpah so I thought this flick should be a... read more

" Director: Sam Peckinpah His 8th movie My 4th movie watched from the director One of Peckinpah's better efforts. The pairing of McQueen and MacGraw works, even if both characters can be annoying at times. Peckinpah's style is legendary, even if messy or unrestrained. He simply makes cool movies, even if they aren't great, and this is no exception. Added to Lists: Top Ten Films - Sam Peckinpah Top Ten Performances - Ali MacGraw Top Ten Performances - Steve McQueen Best Chase Scenes Coup"

Film Diary 2021 (210 movies items)

"25.1 One of those movies that you like but is still so flawed and cliche that it kinda pisses you off. The directorโ€™s hand is too heavy, all over the damn celluloid and the sound editor, mixer, whatever must have been taking LSD. So much dissonance. Yet, despite all that McQueen manages to pull off a respectable performance despite the low grade dialogue and piss poor hackneyed character development.(Damn, this film really brought out the curmudgeon in me) Also having a beautiful leading lad"

Movies the giraffe watched in 2020: June (28 movies items)

"First viewing - June 22nd I wanted something kind of light or fun to watch, and for some reason went with a Sam Peckinpah movie instead. Ah well. I enjoyed it for what it is. The cast does an excellent job across the board, and the story was interesting and entertaining most of the time. Some parts didn't make much sense to me, but then if films followed logic at all times they'd be pointless. I would've liked a little more humor in it, but it's fine. Not sure I'd sit through it again, but as a"
