There are definitely some things I strongly question about this movie, but overall I was entertained and it was a fun outing. Obviously the two leads are likable and that's the main draw. The twist on "A Christmas Carol" is clever enough and the little twists that come along with it kept it interesting. Some of the songs are really good, but I think half of them were unnecessary and far from memorable. The songs also end up making it about 20 minutes too long. It needed to be tighter, for sure.

The title, a play on "Love Actually" and "Die Hard" has only being set during Christmas related to them. It's a Hallmark-style movie that sits above those. There isn't anything clever or new about it, but what helps is the likable leads and higher caliber acting (not saying much, I know). Plus there are a few scenes that are pretty entertaining.

This felt like a made-for-TV movie that was way better than anyone expected. The production is simple and average, but the writing, story, characters, and actors are fantastic and beautiful. It's the definition of a feel-good movie. And it didn't have to be political, preachy, or inventive. This is a rare success, and I'm so happy to see it won the Oscar for Best Picture.

This movie is not necessarily bad, but the tone just doesn't feel right, as maybe the director wanted. The twist is interesting, but sort of predictable and the payoff is not worth a mediocre story. Movies that combine two high-concept ideas aren't always a bad thing, but this one was too clearly trying to be a mix between "Stepford Wives" and "The Matrix" and no matter the ambitions it's doesn't ascend to those levels. Another additional reason is that none of the characters are likable, at any point, and that's pretty damn important if you want to get behind an idea.

A movie that asks 'what is exploitation?' while being exploitive. An approach a lot of people didn't seem to like. I liked the idea, even if it is difficult to watch. What made it easier to watch is the incredible cinematography and truly artistic and creative structure of scenes and editing. Even with the difficult subject matter and sadness throughout I was excited to see how the next scene would play out, how the movie would approach the next part of her life. I never could truly believe De Armas in the role, only because of her Spanish accent (Maybe director's fault?), but otherwise she was very impressive, as is the large supporting cast.

This one was better than expected. I was going into it thinking it would be a middle-road Nicolas Sparks type of movie; and while there were still plenty of those elements, it was a level up from those. The ending is what cemented it as worthwhile movie. The structure and pacing were also nice and impressive for fairly new director, mainly thinking about how they could have easily rushed many of the scenes or left some out, making the emotional weight too light.

I have found Burnham to be a very creative comedian, always looking at taking a new approach to comedy. His videos and live shows are filled with trying to re-form comedy. In this he takes it up another notch and it's hugely successful. Out of all the Covid movies and projects to come out this has to be at the top. He actually made art out of it. The only negative thing I can say it clearly comes from a privileged state and I made sure to actually feel sorry for him at any point, knowing his place. Still, that didn't deter from the very creative comedy that has come from this.

This movie had some weird tonal shifts throughout. I think Howard and company were trying to make a comedy that was also deep but failed. It's too bad because there are some truly funny moments, fun moments, serious moments, emotionally charged moments, but as a whole they didn't work with each other. The acting wasn't bad either. Though, beyond Wynona Rider's naturally poor acting I have one negative comment about the acting - Vince Vaughn is naturally funny, but I think every movie he has done post "Wedding Crashers" he has this way about him where he now knows what people love about him and he tries to replicated that, causing a lot of his jokes and acting not to land. They're often 90% there. Whereas, pre "Wedding Crashers" he was still trying to himself.

This anthology movie is quite a spectacle. Rarely do these types of movies hold much of my interest - "Wild Tales" is a rare exception. Every tale in this is honestly very good and I wouldn't want to get rid of any of them. The tying themes are so well done, the main one being death, but more complicated than that, of course. The acting is superb, the characters are memorable, and of course the Coen writing is like no other. I loved the scenery, cinematography, and really the whole production design.
I'm ashamed it took me this long to see a Coen Brothers movie. Ashamed.

Wow, finally a movie that has been on my list for honestly twenty years, and here we are! It mostly lives up to the expectations. A lot of alpha male dialogue and action with all the characters getting killed off one-by-one.
It is a delight to see but also a sad reminder of how these types of movies no longer get any mainstream attention.
The one part that was actually kind of disappoint was "Get to the chopper!" as it's a hugely popular line from this movie, but in the scene it feels like just another line from Arnold. Doesn't actually stand out and not as intense as I expected.

This movie starts off really strong and seems like it's going in an interesting direction... but doesn't. It ends up being lot of dialogue that's more annoying and derivative than interesting and enlightening, as I am sure the writer imagined it would be. They want to say a lot in this movie but none of it truly lands even if a lot of the imagery is memorable.
Really, most of the characters are not likable. The production design and cinematography and editing were noticeably strong, it just didn't have the story/writing/characters to make it a really good movie.

I love Luhrmann's style, no matter the subject matter. It's unique to him and it always creates a certain excitable energy. Butler does a hell of a job playing the king and Hanks is incredibly, and appropriately, unlikable. The title should have been different because of half the focus being on The Colonel, and it's just a boring title... but that's something director has rarely done right (Rome + Juliet, Australia, etc.). Anyway, the whole production has impressive and the scenes with the performances were certainly the highlight. Going into the movie I wasn't expecting to actually feel bad for Elvis Presley, but I did.

There are a lot of funny things happening here, but the story isn't great and the supporting characters aren't as funny as 'Do America'. PTA, one of my favorite directors of the last 30 years, directing a movie set in The Valley, it's going to be amazing. That trailer led me to believe it, the poster helps, the casting of Haim and Phillip Seymour-Hoffman's son , the supporting cast of Penn, Waits, and Cooper... it had everything going for it; yet, on my first viewing I am left disappointed. That, by no means, means it's a bad movie, in fact, I am rating it 8/10, because there are so many things I liked about it. I just didn't immediately love it, like I have with 6 out of 8 of Anderson's previous movies.
Much like "Inherent Vice" and "Boogie Nights" this movie is full of really entertaining scenes and interesting characters. And like with "Inherent Vice" it doesn't work perfectly as a whole movie, as "Boogie Nights" did.

Howard's documentary experience seemed to influence the approach to this movie as it almost felt like one. It eschewed a lot of the rescue movie tropes and replaced it with natural non-dramatic dialogue with mostly action of how it happened. There were a few moments of the parents that seemed to against this approach, otherwise it worked really well.

I had high expectations for this one - A Leos Carax musical, Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver, the Sparks Brothers creating the music/lyrics, that poster, the trailer... it seemed like a guarantee.
But alas it wasn't great and I wasn't wowed. I was, however, very amused through most of it and absolutely love the creativity and effort. The look of the film was the best part, but the characters were the worst part. The composer had some likability to him, otherwise it was tough to get into it because they all seemed perfectly unlikable. As for the musical aspect, I loved the opening and end credits songs, otherwise a lot of the songs didn't really feel like songs, more like telling us what is happening, but in song. Maybe it was an ode to "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" but not nearly as affective.
Finally, the final scene in "Annette" with Annette was the strongest scene. That, and the end credits helped end it with good feelings, since it was going downhill before that, as the movie seemed to not know what to do, like with seemingly pointless scenes like McHenry being in a club with beautiful women.
