" First Viewing Viewing Date: January 10th Via: iTunes Store Plot: An alien must pose as a human to save his dying planet, but a woman and greed of other men create complications. Rating: 6.3/10 Why Did I Watch It? It was a 99 cent rental. I also realized it was the anniversary of Bowie's passing."
" Notes: Well, it must be by far one of the weirdest alien features I have ever seen. Basically, it was a little bit like 'E.T.', except that the alien character was not a puppet but was played by David Bowie and the makers were apparently running on acid. First of all, let's state the obvious, Bowie was basically born to play such a character. Back in those days, the rock star was actually a major drug addict but, even without the drugs, the way he looked and his attitude was just perfect to pl"

" David Bowie said he "was totally insecure with about 10 grams a day in me. I was stoned out of my mind from beginning to end"."
"David Bowie esittää miestä ulkoavaruudesta, joka masentuu kohdatessaan sen, mitä ihmiset ovat maailmassamme."
"Bearing no traces of the tropes that helped tame the genre throughout the decade, Nicolas Roeg’s adaptation of Walter Tevis’s novel remains a breathlessly in-the-moment, sui generis creation. David Bowie is Thomas Jerome Newton, a scarlet-haired alien sent to earth to secure water for his own dehydrated planet. After he hustles a multimillion-dollar fortune out of high-tech patents, the beanpole androgyne becomes waylaid from his mission, mesmerized by serial distractions such as a comely el"
"Adapted from the novel by Walter Tevis, Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth finds the alien in alienation. The novel and film are melancholy studies in social estrangement and the depredations of alcoholism, loosely attired in the trappings of science fiction, that recount the disastrous attempts at earthly assimilation by an ambitious visitor from another planet. If anything, Roeg and screenwriter Paul Mayersberg enlarge upon the tragedy of ersatz human and eventual billionaire Thomas Je"
"Nicolas Roeg's sci-fi drama is a difficult watch, especially if you are not a fan of his particular style of filmmaking, yet if you can accept his approach, you will get a satisfying and intelligent tale of an alien who comes to earth in get water to save his planet only to be seduced by television, drink and greed. David Bowie is superbly perfect as the title character in a film that is challenging, interesting and a cult gem."

“I already saw this movie but, the first time around, it was on the BBC without subtitles so I thought I might as well check it out again with subtitle”
“I already saw this movie but, the first time around, it was on the BBC without subtitles so I thought I might as well check it out again with subtitles this time to see if I could then get a better grip on the damned thing this way. Well, to be honest, I was amazed by how little I actually remembered it. Seriously, except for the fact that Newton arrived with some revolutionary patents from his planet and became rich with these patents, I absolutely didn't remember anything else at all which is rather odd since I saw it only 6 years ago. Anyway, the damned thing is actually a huge mess but I guess it is also what makes it appealing. Indeed, it must be by far one of the weirdest alien features I have ever seen though. Basically, it was a little bit like 'E.T.', except that the alien charact” read more
