"There's no such thing as a wrong war. Violence and revolution are the only pure acts."

Helmed by film critic-turned-director Lindsay Anderson, If.... is an acidic assault on the imbalance of power and an experimental ode to revolution. Due to the nature of the movie, the executives at Paramount Pictures hated it and subsequently shelved it when they first received the final product... read more

I was unsure what my expectations were going to be of this film at first because it seems quite a weird film but what draw my attention to If.... was that Stanley Kubrick was fascinated and inspired by Malcolm McDowell's performance which lead to Malcolm's part in A Clockwork Orange. Anyway about If...., I thought this film was just really good that had a lot of hard to watch scenes including some... read more

To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick so maybe I should give it another try at some point. In fact, I remember actually very well the first time I saw it. Back in those days, I was in college, studying English, and an English exchange student showed us this movie while in class. The guy was really enthusiast, telling that it was a massive classic but, in fact, none of us h... read more

In an English boys’ boarding school, social hierarchy reigns supreme and power remains in the hands of distanced and ineffectual teachers and callously vicious prefects in the Upper Sixth. But three Lower Sixth students, leader Mick Travis, Wallace and Johnny decide on a shocking course of action to redress the balance of privilege once and for all.

"After seeing O' Lucky Man during my college years I was a big fan of director Lindsay Anderson, but I never got around to seeing his other films like this and Brittania Hospital. I spotted this on Criterion at the Goodwill and had to add it to the collection. "

" Date: 3/27/2019 Viewed: Amazon Prime Re-watch Note: This movie is awesome and I enjoy every bit of this movie. I didn't like this movie the first time I saw it back when I was a teenager. Watching it now over a decade later, this movie has a lot to offer by having a great story and characters. I really like the movie's themes of social criticism and fantasy rebellion. I highly recommend this movie!"

Movies the giraffe watched in 2016: July (38 movies items)

"First viewing - July 8th Ever since I found out this was Malcolm McDowall's first film & the reason he was cast as Alex in A Clockwork Orange I've been wanting to see it. Now that I have I can see why Kubrick was so impressed by him, as his performance is the main reason to watch If.... In fact, whenever he's not on screen the film isn't quite as engaging. The rest of the cast does a solid enough job, but he clearly steals the film. One complaint I had is that the Criterion DVD lacked any subti"
