Bizarre Love Triangle

A fantastic noir focused around a bizarre love triangle between a gambler, his boss (a front for a Nazi cartel) and his boss' wife (who is also the gamblers ex-lover). Look under the hood and you'll see a film themed on male self-loathing, misogyny and the fear of liberated female sexuality. On the surface its all about the strikingly beautiful Rita Hayworth. Fans of The Shawshank Redemption will ... read more

Rita Hayworth is one of my absolute favorite actresses. She was magnificent in all of her movies! What a beauty! This movie must be seen by anyone who is interested in Rita. She was one of the best!!!

Since this movie had a really solid reputation, I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, to be honest, even though I thought it was a decent flick, I can’t say I was really blown away by the whole thing. Indeed, at the end of the day, I though it was pretty good but not really great either. I mean, it was well done but also rather predictable and the story was quite pedestrian. Sure, I ha... read more

Just arrived in Argentina, small-time crooked gambler Johnny Farrell is saved from a gunman by sinister Ballin Mundson, who later makes Johnny his right-hand man. But their friendship based on mutual lack of scruples is strained when Mundson returns from a trip with a wife: the supremely desirable Gilda, whom Johnny once knew and learned to hate. The relationship of Johnny and Gilda, a battlefield of warring emotions, becomes even more bizarre after Mundson disappears.

Slant’s 100 Best Film Noirs of All Time (100 movies items)

"Charles Vidor’s Gilda places its eponymous bombshell between two men—both sexually frustrated, both concealing their impotence through deviant business practice—and has them not actually care too much about her beyond her value as a trophy to shield their perpetually fractured egos. The film questions the honesty of each character’s intentions by consistently revealing their interests to be wholly self-serving. Gilda is best appreciated as an intelligent back and forth on the fantasy of "

Movies the giraffe watched in 2018: June (27 movies items)

"First viewing - June 24th And here's another film whose leading man plays a role that's strongly suggested isn't heterosexual. Glenn Ford's character seems to be bisexual here, which kept the central love triangle really interesting. Even without that, however, the dialogue between these characters and the overall story are so strong and well-executed that I was deeply engaged with the entire film. And yes, Rita Hayworth is both an excellent actress and beautiful to look at. It's no surprise we"
