An old classic

Posted : 13 years, 1 month ago on 15 March 2011 11:37

Since this movie had a really solid reputation, I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, to be honest, even though I thought it was a decent flick, I canโ€™t say I was really blown away by the whole thing. Indeed, at the end of the day, I though it was pretty good but not really great either. I mean, it was well done but also rather predictable and the story was quite pedestrian. Sure, I have to admit it, Glenn Ford was a fine leading man and, above all, Rita Hayworth looked really stunning as the title character and this movie would be her best-known feature. In my opinion, it is one of these movies which are about above all well known for one specific scene. In this case, it was when Rita Hayworth removed her glove while singing (in fact, she wasn't singing at all and was lip-synching throughout the whole thing which was something she remained bitter about that for the rest of her life). The point is that, except for this famous scene, the movie was not really amazing. To conclude, even though I thought it was sligthly disappointing, it is still a decent film noir and it is definitely worth a look though, especially if you like the genre.

Rita Hayworth is one of my absolute favorite actresses. She was magnificent in all of her movies! What a beauty! This movie must be seen by anyone who is interested in Rita. She was one of the best!!!

Bizarre Love Triangle

Posted : 17 years, 1 month ago on 17 March 2007 09:15

A fantastic noir focused around a bizarre love triangle between a gambler, his boss (a front for a Nazi cartel) and his boss' wife (who is also the gamblers ex-lover). Look under the hood and you'll see a film themed on male self-loathing, misogyny and the fear of liberated female sexuality. On the surface its all about the strikingly beautiful Rita Hayworth. Fans of The Shawshank Redemption will remember the famous Hayworth poster image, that was taken from Gilda.
