"I'm not your enemy, Ming is! And you know it yourself. Ming is the enemy of every creature of Mongo! Let's all team up and fight him." Let's get this straight from the beginning: Flash Gordon is awesome. Rich in distinctive '80s campiness, it's a cheesy blockbuster extravaganza full of hammy acting, side-splitting special effects, glorious non-sequiturs, fantastic music and some of the most unin... read more

Flash Gordon, quarterback New York Jets, becomes intergalactic savior all to the tune of Queen's classic soundtrack. All I have to say is "Flash...Aaaaa...Savior of the universe!" Does it really get any better than that?

Yes, the plot is silly, yes the dialogue is cheesy and yes, some of the special effects are badly done, but nonetheless it is great fun. Like Rocky Horror Picture Show, Congo and Jingle All the Way, Flash Gordon is a sort of guilty pleasure of mine. The costumes are quite extravagant and the sets are exotic. Then you have an irresistibly killer soundtrack from Queen, who also brought us the classi... read more

Description: When the totalitarian planet of Mongo decides on a whim to obliterate Earth, it's up to the lunk-headed quarterback Flash Gordon and his oddball companions to make the universe safe for democracy. Based on the classic (and infinitely more reputable) comic strip and its '30s screen serialization, this cotton-candy-colored trash classic deserves immortality for Queen's unforgettably pulsating soundtrack alone. The legendary Max von Sydow appears to be having a blast as the evil Ming the Merciless, while Ornella Muti, as his daughter, is the living embodiment of what attracts adolescent boys to comics in the first place. Pros and Cons of Films: Vol. 1 (121 movies items)

"Pros: Max von Sydow, and his performance as Ming the Merciless. The over the top fun, of the movie. Queen, and the song track. “He’s the saviour of the universe!” The production design of the movie. A early performance by Timothy Dalton. Sam L. Jones as Flash Gordon! Con: If you are not into high cheese sci-fi films, then this movie might not be for you."

Sam J Jones is bad with his cheesiness but he was fun besides, thank goodness he wasn't bland like Justin Whalin from Dungeons and Dungeons, and Melody Anderson is charming and alluring as Dale. Brian Blessed is very hammy as Vultran but he is great fun regardless and Topol, who was so sup” read more
