" A surreal adaptation of Sir Thomas Maloryâs âLe Morte dâArthurâ, chronicling Arthur Pendragonâs conception, his rise to the throne, the search by his Knights of the Round Table for the Holy Grail, and ultimately his death. Excalibur is a 1981 epic medieval fantasy film directed, co-written and produced by John Boorman, that retells the legend of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table, based loosely on the 15th-century Arthurian romance Le Morte d'Arthur by Thomas Malory. "21.1. This film reminded me what I love about John Boorman: it doesn't matter how silly of campy his subject matters are, they always feel larger than life and downright awe-inspiring."
"Pros: A dark, gritty, medieval movie. Great performances by Nigel Terry, Nicol Williamson, Helen Mirren, and Patrick Stewart. Earlier performances by Gabriel Byrne, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, and CiarĂĄn Hinds. The cinematography. Epic classic music, and Trevor Jones. The gritty, violent battle scenes. It effectively use the King Arthur Legend. The attention, to detail. Cons: Itâs epically lengthy, and at times pretentious. Some of the actions in the film, can describe as questi"

"25.1. Blu-ray Mulla oli pikkupoikana sen verran suuri innostus Arthurin legendaa kohtaan, ettÀ sillÀ on varmasti vaikutuksensa sille, ettei noin kymmenvuotiaasta asti juuri mikÀÀn keskiaikafiktio ole kummemmin jaksanut kiinnostaa. Siksi olikin suuri ilo huomata, kuinka kiehtovan elokuvan John Boorman on aiheesta loihtinut.
"Maybe it was because I found Excalibur at first to be way too overdone, and pretentious (it didnât help that it was an extremely long movie), but at the time I didnât like Excalibur. But now, itâs one of my favourite films about King Arthur and the Round Table."
" In an age where we now have film series like Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter, Excalibur may seem, by today's cinema standards, as incredibly small (not to mention, kinda mashed) potatoes. But still, for a kid like me, who was craving for any film with a fantasy flare, despite the time-period's lack of CGI technology, Excalibur tried it's best to approach the belief-suspending subject matter with an epic sense of integrity. I'm not sure it holds as well as other works of the early to mid 80'"
"10.4 Iso-Britannia/Boorman John Boorman on kyllÀ outo jÀtkÀ.
