I've been wanting to check out this one for a while, and I'm very glad I did.
I found this movie to be both really freaky and heartbreaking at the same time.
The story itself isn't really complicated, but a lot of weird moments and strange cinematography makes it a semi-surreal viewing. The acting is really damn good, and the completely real sex scene with the two main actors is really tender and emotional. The horror elements, I gotta admit, really scared me. Like the sightings of a figure in a red raincoat, and the creepy elderly sisters.
Both the beginning and the ending consists of two really heartbreaking scenes, so don't watch this if you want to be cheered up.

Galaxy of Terror (1981)

While this movie has a pretty weak plot and a lot of things doesn't really make any sense, it's really entertaining. It's just a cool and atmospheric b-film, with great gore and a lot of disgusting monsters. I really liked the Alien-inspired scenery as well.
It's not for everyone, so if you're a fan of old and incredibly cheesy sci-fi/horror b-movies, check it out.

(There's a really nasty scene where a giant maggot rapes a woman, so don't watch this film if you're squeamish!)

Kakurenbo (2007)

I hadn't heard of this before I saw it on a list of anime horror films, and I'm glad I checked it out.
It's really moody and atmospheric, and while it didn't scare me, it had some creepy, tense moments.
The story is like a modern day urban legend mixed with old folklore, and while the characters aren't really that developed (which is understandable, since the runtime of the film is just around 25 minutes long), but you actually do care about them.
The soundtrack is really impressive, and it really goes hand in hand with the really gloomy animation.
Recommended to anyone who's looking for something spooky to watch.

Angel Heart (1987)

...
I fucking loved this flick... It was incredibly dark, and it kept getting progressively darker and darker through it.
The acting is fantastic, especially the performances by Rourke and De Niro, and they really fit right into the film's sinister and dark atmosphere. The soundtrack is just... perfect. Absolutely perfect.
The convoluted story has one of the most shocking reveals I've ever seen, and I advise you not to look up any information about it at all and just watch it.

Grave Encounters 2 (2012)
- First Time Watch -
I'm a big fan of the first one, but I wasn't impressed with this one at all.
It had some fun parts and interesting concepts, but it also had weaker characters and a messy plot. The horror scenes weren't as effective as they are in the first one, probably because the buildup was much weaker and most parts seemed like they were rushed. The effects were weaker as well, but most of the ghosts still looked pretty cool. The ending was just ridiculous and stupid.

I don't think this one is as good as everyone is saying, but it's still a pretty good flick.
The concept is really clever, the cinematography and music is pretty damn good, and it's got a great cast.
The first part with all the time travel-stuff was great, but the pace got really slow later in the film, and it shifted focus onto something different. It just got way to silly from there on, IMO.

I actually like it more after a second viewing. The film made much more sense, and the characters' motivations seemed way more clearer.
Really looking forward to the sequel(s).

It's scary, it's got an unique narrative, it's got really good cinematography, and it's got an effective soundtrack.
Just watch it, it's perfect for this time of the year.

Chasing Sleep (2001)
- First Time Watch -
An intense, claustrophobic, twisted, downright scary and criminally underrated thriller. I won't spoil the plot, but it's in the same vein as films like Session 9, Lost Highway and The Machinist. Jeff Daniels is fantastic in this, and he really looks like he's gradually losing his mind for real.
I really, really recommend this film for someone who's looking for something really dark and surreal for this Halloween.
