Chappie (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 80%. Even though Neil Blomkamp's last movie was somewhat of a letdown, Chappie looks to be a very entertaining and heartfelt return to form.
Actual Score : 31%. Really shocked about this one, while I think some of the critics were a bit harsh, I have to agree doe the most part.
As with District 9 and Elysium, Chappie looks amazing from a visual stand point, but the characters aren't well developed and there's way too much screen time devoted to Die Antwood. What could have been a really heartfelt film turned out to be a mediocre one.
Still, I haven't given up on Niel Blomkamp yet, I'm hoping Alien 5 proves that District 9 wasn't an accident.

Unfinished Business (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 48%. Not much to say about this film other than it looks like a potentially fun movie.
Actual Score : 10%. Frustratingly uneven and Needlessly raunchy, Unfinished Business wastes its talented cast with poorly written humor and lazy writing.

JWR's rating:

Cinderella (2015)
Tomatometer Guess: 66%. While I was not impressed with Disney's last two live-action remakes, I'm hoping that Kenneth Branagh can add something to this film to make it stand out from the 1950 film and not seem like a cash grab.
Actual Score : 83%. Higher than I expected. While not perfect, Cinderella stays true to the original fairy tale and adds some extra character development.

JWR's rating:

Run All Night (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 44%. Hopefully, this movie should be at least better than Taken 3, although that's not a difficult feat.
Actual Score : 60%. I enjoyed this way more than I expected. The action is well shot, it's refreshing to see Liam Neeson as a rugged and flawed protagonist, and the characters feel real, which is rare for action films. Give it a watch.

JWR's rating:

Insurgent (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 50%. The first Divergent might have been a carbon copy of The Hunger Games, but it wasn't a terrible movie, and Shailene Woodley was good in it. I'm expecting the sequel to be at least a miniscule improvement.
Actual Score: 34%. Despite some entertaining action set pieces, and a terrific performance from Shailene Woodley, Insuurgent suffers from an overload of rushed subplots, and a cast that looks bored out of their minds.

JWR's rating:

The Gunman (2015) (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 78%. This movie might turn out to be the biggest surprise, with an interesting premise, a great cast, and the director of Taken (The good one) attached, The Gunman looks like a fun time at the movies.
Actual Score : 14%. Seems like this March has brought not one, but two disappointing movies. What was marketed as an intense, action-packed adventure turns out to be a boring melodrama with very little action.

JWR's rating:

Tomatometer Guess : 69%. Kevin Hart is one of those actors who is almost always fun to watch, Will Ferrell is equally hilarious, (given that he has the right material to work with) and seeing them together might be a blast if done right.
Actual Score : 30%. What a waste of two talented comedians. Rather than let Ferrell and Hart act naturally, , the movie wastes its potential with offensive and crude jokes. The only thing that kept me from completely hating it is that there were a few jokes that made me chuckle.

JWR's rating:

Home (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 65%. While Home looks like DreamWorks' attempt to rip off Lilo and Stitch, I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
Actual Score : 47%. Below my prediction, but not unexpected. While Home has good intentions, it suffers from having an annoying protagonist, forced pop culture references, and a predictable plot. It's not terrible, but it's something that only the littlest of kids will enjoy. Either rent this or wait until Inside Out or Minions comes out.

Furious 7 (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 76%. If you're looking for a movie to tide you over before Avengers : Age of Ultron comes out, this might be the movie for you.
Actual Score : 82%. Close enough prediction. Very entertaining film with exiting action sequences, and a very well done tribute to Paul Walker. While the rest of April is a slow month for movies, this is a satisfying appetizer for the summer movie season.

JWR's rating:

Ex Machina (2014)
Tomatometer Guess : 93%. Writer Alex Garland makes his directorial debut with this sleek looking Sci-Fi thriller.
Actual Score : 90%. Very well done, low key sci film. Alexis Vikander is amazing as Ava.

JWR's rating:

Tomatometer Guess : 10%. As with any Nicholas Sparks movie, expect to see sappy romance, cheesy dialogue, and and an emotionally manipulative ending.
Actual Score : 29%. The Longest Ride is one of the better and least manipulative Nicholas Sparks movies, but it's still full of cheesy dialogue and lazy writing.

JWR's rating:

Unfriended (2014)
Tomatometer Guess : 66%. The Premise Sounds interesting and the early reviews have been good, so this might actually be decent.
Actual Score : 66%. Spot on guess. While this movie does have a gimmicky premise, the acting is better than average and the movie is genuinely chilling at times. However, It's not your conventional horror movie and Is not for everyone.

Tomatometer Guess : 16%. Why are they making this movie now? The first Paul Blart movie made a decent amount of change, but this feels like striking the iron while it's cold.
Actual Score : 2%. Wow, just wow. I wasn't expecting much from a sequel to a mediocre, but harmless family film, but good grief. This movie has no story, it's just one scene of Kevin James falling on his a** / being called fat after another. The story is the same as the first, and there's an abundance of half cooked subplots. A truly painful moviegoing experience.

JWR's rating:

The Age of Adaline (2015)
Tomatometer Guess : 71%. While opening a week before Avengers: Age of Ultron will hurt this movie's box office, it looks like a heartfelt and touching (albeit sappy) romance story.
Actual Score : 54%. As I predicted, The Age of Adaline is somewhat sappy and uneven, but thanks to great performances from Blake Lively and Harrison Ford (Who actually looks like he gives a damn), it's also very heartfelt and touching.

JWR's rating:

All things considered, 2015 had a rather decent start, while there were several stinkers (50 Shades of Grey), there were several pleasant surprises (Paddington, Kingsman).
Now as we enter the calm before the summer blockbuster storm, let's see what March and April have in store for us.
