Day 1: a memorable animal in a horror movie
The birthday party for Burgess Meredith's cat occasionally pops in my head and makes me laugh every time.

The birthday party for Burgess Meredith's cat occasionally pops in my head and makes me laugh every time.
Frankenstein (1931)
Day 2: One of your earliest encounters with the horror genre
I probably saw a few unremarkable horror movies before it, but Frankenstein is the one that had the longest lasting impression on me. I was only 7 years old, it was halloween night, and this was the perfect movie for my young mind. It inspired a life long love of classic monster movies.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Day 5: Favorite horror director
Jacques Tourneur, director of such beautiful and influential classics as Cat People, I walked with a zombie, The leopard man, and Night of the demon.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Day 6: Your favorite movie by your favorite director
Simply one of the finest and most beautifully filmed horror movies ever made.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Dracula (1958)
Day 7: A great hero
Peter Cushing as Professor Abraham Van Helsing in the hammer Dracula films. I'm also bias because Cushing is my favorite actor.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Girly (1970)
Day 8: Best comedy-horror
ok, maybe not the best but I've been really taken in with it lately. It's a delightfully dark British horror comedy.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Day 9: A boring horror movie
Werewolves? What werewolves? Oh, the mixed bag of them that you see at the end? This is a really bad remake of the first movie that tries to retain the mystery of the original and fails because it's the 3rd sequel to a werewolf movie franchise, we all know that it's a werewolf at large. As noted before, the werewolves are a mixed bag. We have one that looks kind of like a halloween mask, a bunch of german shepards that are supposed to be wolves, men with fangs and sideburns, and one werewolf that is really awesome looking but you never get to see.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Day 10: An instant classic
Haunting, subtle, deliberately paced, and atmospheric as hell. This was a breath of fresh air that the genre hasn't seen in years.

M (1931)
Day 11: Most psychotic killer
Peter Lorre's eerily human performance as a child murderer who attempts to justify his disgusting actions.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Dead Alive (1992)
Day 12: The Goriest horror movie you've seen
As far as sheer amount of gore, this one easily takes the cake. However, it's a comedy and the gore is played for over the top laughs.

Larry Talbot's rating:

House (1977)
Day 13: Favorite foreign horror movie
Bizarre, visually stunning, batshit insane, surreal; From dancing skeletons and flesh eating pianos, I don't even want to show any real pictures from it because it has to be seen to be believed.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Blood Diner (1987)
Day 14: The Cheesiest horror movie you've ever seen
Nowhere near the cheesiest movie i've seen, but it was the first one to come to mind. It's cheesy in the best, most hilarious way though. I love this movie.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Day 15: A great 80's horror movie
Honestly, what can I say about this one that hasn't already been said. This is one of my favorite movies, period.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Day 16: Best Indie film
I've never liked the term "indie" because it tends to be applied to very pretentious movies. Many of the best horror movies are independently produced, but when I think "Indy", this one was the first to come to mind for some reason. It's a bit overrated by werewolf freaks, but I still find it to be a fun movie nonetheless.

Day 17: Favorite horror franchise
The Friday movies were formulaic and predictable, but they are just so much fun to watch. Out of all of the slasher movies, it's my favorite franchise because the series never aimed too high to begin with...unlike every other one(Nightmare, halloween etc) which started off strong and got bad quickly. Friday the 13th was silly from the beginning and always delivered. Besides, jason is just really awesome.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Troll (1986)
Day 18: A movie people hate that you love
This is a bad movie for sure, but I found it to be enjoyable in it's ridiculousness. For some reason, it seemed like something that I would have really enjoyed as a kid and that song got stuck in my head for weeks.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Day 19: A movie that disappointed you
I bought this movie because I'm a collector and someone who strives to be a horror movie connoisseur.I was excited to see it because I heard it compared to the Company of wolves, which is a favorite of mine. Instead, I found it to be tedious for the most part and not as visually striking as I had imagined it to be. I had also recently seen Lemora, a child's tale of the supernatural and thought that that movie had covered similar themes in a much better fashion. It had a few notable moments though and the music is incredibly beautiful. That said, I am still glad that I have it, at least as a curiosity in my collection.

Larry Talbot's rating:

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
Day 20: A great twist ending
One of the first and best twist endings in cinema history. It's been ripped off many times, but so has the rest of the movie. I'd argue that much of Tim Burton's career owes a debt to it.

Larry Talbot's rating:

High Tension (2003)
Day 21: A horrible/lame twist
A cop out ending that not only makes little sense, but ruins what is otherwise a very disturbing and effective horror movie.

The Exorcist (1973)
Day 22: Best movie based on a book
Another that has been talked up to great lengths, but it is one of the greats and certainly a favorite of mine.

Larry Talbot's rating:

The Old Dark House (1932)
Day 23: Scariest old person
Old man Femm is played by an old woman with a thin beard and that always creeped me out quite a bit.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Splinter (2008)
Day 24: A movie you expected to be bad, but enjoyed
I didn't expect much because it was direct to dvd and a modern horror movie(which I don't tend to like), but it turned out to be a very original and creepy monster movie.

Day 25: A franchise you donโt like
While a lot of people have fond memories of these movies and consider them to be the ones to have resurrected horror in the 90's, I always considered it to be the movie that drove it down even further into self parody. It also inspired a wave of PG13ish horror movies starring familiar 'hip" television actors and a genre of horror that thrived on trying to prove how "cool" it was being.

Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)
Day 26: Worst sequel
I'll give John Boorman credit for not just repeating what the first one did, but that is part of the problem. It's ambitious and strives to be something of an epic, but that's not what the exorcist is. That said, you do have a beautiful Ennio Morricone score, Linda Blair at her peak, and the hilarity of James Earl Jones dressed as a grasshopper.

Carrie (1976)
Favorite OR least favorite Stephen King movie
Favorite Stephen King adaptation, at least in the horror genre.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Day 28: A great zombie movie
One of the few zombie movies that I even still like anymore. I'm really burned out on the genre and kind of want it to go away.

Larry Talbot's rating:

Day 29: A movie you refuse to watch
wasn't the joke kind of over with the first movie? The first movie only exists because it banks on it's over sensational premise. Once the novelty has worn off(which it did quickly because of it's cult following), what is the point? Did we really need a sequel?
