I don't think this is one of those movies that will be hauled as classics in the coming years, but it's still a thoroughly entertaining and striking display of northern filmmaking at it's best. Often melancholic and almost completely silent, drowning in snowy suburban landscapes, Let The Right One In has tons of beautiful imagery to showcase along with a score that supports the film as a whole and... read more

Oskar: "Are you really twelve?"
Eli: "Yes. It's just I've been twelve for a very long time."

An assuringly unique and refreshing vampire story from Sweden, Let the Right One In is a motion picture of extraordinary mood and imaginative directorial potency. Instead of a customary genre feature, this Swedish sleeper is in fact a hushed, gentle tale of provisional friendship, the... read more

Description: A fragile, anxious boy, 12-year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boy’s wish for a friend seems to come true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him with her father. A pale, serious young girl, she only comes out at night and doesn’t seem affected by the freezing temperatures. Coinciding with Eli’s arrival is a series of inexplicable disappearances and murders. One man is found tied to a tree, another frozen in the lake, a woman bitten in the neck. Blood seems to be the common denominator - and for an introverted boy like Oskar, who is fascinated ... (more)

Slant’s 100 Greatest Horror Films – 2018 Edition (100 movies items)

"Not unlike Matt Reeves’s American remake, Tomas Alfredson’s Let the Right One In is, in its color scheme and emotional tenor, something almost unbearably blue. When Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant), a 12-year-old outcast perpetually bullied at school, meets Eli (Lina Leandersson), the mysterious new girl at his apartment complex, one child’s painful coming of age is conflated with another’s insatiable bloodlust. The film treats adolescence, even a vampire’s arrested own, as a prolonged horror"

Fall Horrorfest 2018 (40 movies items)

" Watched October 23rd Rating: Streamed on Shudder I don't think it quite did it for me. It wasn't bad, maybe I've heard it hyped up too much, but I was expecting something a little scarier and more intense, instead of this relatively calm, slow-burn vampire drama. It had a few good scenes and definitely tried its best to make an emotional connection, but I never let myself get too immersed. Maybe I'm a little done with vamps after watching so many vamp movies this summer, I dunno. However it d"
