For me, this is pretty much the ultimate zombie film. I never considered myself a fan of the genre until I saw this masterpiece. The outbreak of a mysterious zombie plague that results in flesh-eating humans littering the streets and baying for blood sets the scene for a tale of survival.

Aided by a trusty helicopter, one band of survivors manages to get to a shopping centre, clear ... read more

When There's No More Room In Hell...

To me the first epic horror movie. Seems a little dated and merger within it's budgetary restraints, but over comes with sheer excitement and originality. Very interesting commentary on American society of the 1970's as a consumerist nation hellbent on consuming each other and everything they come in contact with. Just a fricking cool movie all around. Second part of Romero's Living Dead trilogy.

A classic

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I was really eager to check it out again. Well, to be honest, pretty much like with 'Night of the Living Dead', even though I did like the damned thing, I can't say I thought it was really great though. Sure, I did like how it was sharp with a nice combination of horror, humor and satirical critic on our consumerist ... read more

Slant’s 100 Greatest Horror Films – 2018 Edition (100 movies items)

"Whether he knew it or not, George A. Romero was working toward Dawn of the Dead throughout the 1970s, his ambitions crystallizing into an operatic, seamy, tragic and trashy horror-action canvas. The film dramatizes cycles of revolution, following working-class characters as they get a taste of rarefied life, walling themselves off from the populace, in the traditions of our political leaders and celebrities, and resenting the people who come clawing at the gates for a taste of the wealth. " Notes: To be honest, pretty much like with 'Night of the Living Dead', even though I did like the damned thing, I can't say I found it really great though. In fact, I thought it was better than the first installment, sharper with a nice combination of horror, humor and satirical critic on our consumerist society. The main issue for me was the rather average acting and the directing which could have been better. Both were actually better in the remake in my opinion. In fact, I can't actually sa"

Movie Reviews (1101-1150) (50 movies items)

" Combines the great minds of George A. Romero and Dario Argento at their height of their powers doing a zombie film together. It's an effective zombie movie with even more gruesome looking zombies, gorier deaths and engaging characters than in it's original. It also has fantastic music from Goblin and a great parallel theme about consumption in big shopping centers. Tom Savini's blood effects and sleazy appearance as a biker add to the fun."

Moviewatcher122's 2017 Film Diary: July (12 movies items)

"July 31 - August 1 Re-watch "What are they doing? Why do they come here?" "Some kind of instinct. Memory of what they used to do. This was an important place in their lives." I just had to watch Dawn of the Dead this month. As much as I love Night of the Living Dead, this is a perfect example of an amazing sequel to an already great movie. It's one of my top 5 favorite movies and I wasn't sure if that would change after re-visiting it again, but by the time it ended I was like "Yeah, it's s"

Movies the giraffe watched in 2017: July (33 movies items)

"First viewing - July 17th Finding out Romero died knocked the wind out of my sails on Sunday, and I’d intended to watch this that night. Unfortunately when I went to my shelves it wasn’t there & at that point I remembered I’d loaned it to a friend who never gave it back. And at the time I looked for it it was after 8pm so there was nowhere I could go to find another copy that night. Thus I went out right after work Monday & was rewarded when I found a used copy for $10 that was signed by "
