A very good movie

Since I kept hearing some really good thing about this flick, I was really eager to check it out. First of all, it is thanks to this movie that Jeff Bridges' career really took off and it was just really neat to see him when he was much younger (and, apparently, already very talented). Basically, it is one of those movies during which nothing much really happen. In fact, nothing much is even told ... read more

Description: In tiny Anarene, Texas, in the lull between World War Two and the Korean Conflict, Sonny and Duane are best friends. Enduring that awkward period of life between boyhood and manhood, the two pass their time the best way they know how -- with the movie house, basketball, and girls. Jacey is Duane's steady, wanted by every boy in school, and she knows it. Her daddy is rich and her mom is good looking and loose. It's the general consensus that whoever wins Jacey's heart will be set for life. But Anarene is dying a quiet death as folks head for the big cities to make their livings and raise their kids. The boys are torn between a fu ... (more)

"In the small town of Anarene, Texas, there live lost souls wandering around the economic wasteland. Sonny (Timothy Bottoms), a kid in high school, and his best friends Duane (Jeff Bridges) and Billy (Sam Bottoms) make the best of their time by going to diners, playing pool, watching movies in the rundown theater, and hooking up girls. Sonny also schedules daily rendezvouses with Ruth Popper (Cloris Leachman), a lonely middle-aged woman whose husband feels sexually distant from her. Naturally, So"

"First viewing - Feb. 17th After The King of Marvin Gardens I took a break for dinner before diving into The Last Picture Show which was absolutely worth my time. I loved pretty much everything about it, and it's such a beautifully depressing and vibrant film. Plus it's set in Texas, and I'm usually a sucker for that. The cast is stellar, the music is excellent throughout, and it's thematically rich. My friend was absolutely correct that I needed to see this, and I'm glad he gave me the opportun"
