I have a rather peculiar relationship with Terrence Malick. Indeed, I think the guy and his work is really fascinating but, sometimes, I actually have a really hard time with his movies. Anyway, by now, Malick has directed only 6 movies in almost 40 years and, so far, this movie is his least appreciated one (In fact, everything he made after ‘The Tree of Life’ didn’t get much love either). Description: When 17th century explorer John Smith and a few men go up the river to trade with the Indians, he befriends the princess Pocahontas and they fall in love. While in love, Smith must obtain his duties as president of Jamestown fort and challenges to himself what is the better path for himself to take: stay with the fallen apart colony or go up the river and love Pocahontas in the wild. The Indians realize that the English do not mean to leave, so they attack. A few men at the fort decide to capture Pocahontas as a hostage so the Indians will not attack them. "My favorite Malick film and perfect project for him considering his love towards nature and his habbit of run off in the middle of the screen to shoot some parrot sitting on a tree branch scratching his head or beautiful vistas as well as forces of nature in work for several minutes constructing almost a half of film's run time from similar shots.
