" Notes: This movie is mostly famous for finally launching John Wayne’s career. In fact, Wayne had been around for quite a while already (he was already in his 30’s) but it was only after this movie that he became a massive movie star. It was also the real start of his partnership with John Ford, even if he did play in some minor parts in other movies directed by Ford before. This movie was also apparently a major inspiration for Orson Welles before he made ‘Citizen Kane’. Well, even tho"

“I’m usually not a huge fan of such vintage Westerns but since this one has a really solid reputation, I was quite eager to check it out. This movie was also apparently a major inspiration for Orson Welles before he made ‘Citizen Kane’. Well, even though this movie is usually considered as a perfect example of textbook filmmaking, to be honest, I actually really struggled with the beginning scenes. Indeed, at a quick ” read more

"First viewing - Apr. 24th Stagecoach tends to rank highly in the Western genre, and it's clear why. There's a colorful cast of characters and their journey to their ultimate destination is never dull for a moment. There are a few minor things that mildly bugged me, but they didn't detract too much from the overall experience. I'd gladly sit through it again some time."
"Here’s a nominee that’s probably destined to be a classic example of good old-fashioned Hollywood entertainment. Dallas (Claire Trevor), Doc Boone (Thomas Mitchell), Lucy Mallory (Louise Platt), Henry Gatewood (Berton Churchill) and Sam Peacock (Donald Meek), pick up an escaped outlaw the Ringo Kid (John Wayne) and head east in a stagecoach from the Arizona Territory to the town of Lordsburg, New Mexico. However, word has it that the Apaches are preparing for an attack and Luke Plummer (Tom "
"“Stagecoach turned the whole western genre on its ear – not only in the way Ford used the beautiful vistas of Monument Valley to tell the story, but also in how he for the first time presents multidimensional characters in a western…. The characters are allowed to be both good and bad, and many shades of gray. This is the film that also made John Wayne a star – finally.” - Robert Osbourne "

"The first sound western by the director who would become the genre’s consummate poet laureate, Stagecoach is nevertheless less a blank-slate beginning than a crystallizing crossroads. The genre staples on display—the cowboy’s instinctive courtliness, the saloon Magdalene-cum-Madonna, the Southerner’s doomed gallantry—were already familiar to the screen from the sagas of William S. Hart and Tom Mix, to say nothing of John Ford’s own earlier westerns starring Harry Carey. Yet there’s"
