A classic, stylish, macho revenge film
“With a screenplay by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) and Heywood Gould (The Boys from Brazil), Rolling Thunder is a rock-solid '70s vigilante action-thriller that deserves more respect and attention. Like most notable '70s thrillers, Rolling Thunder does require patience as the film steadily builds, with director John Flynn (Best Seller, Lock Up) showing more interest in character drama than outright action. The film succeeds thanks to the excellent performances, fascinating characters, absorbing dialogue, and gripping moments of violence, with Flynn ensuring the picture is a consistently enthralling sit between the shootouts. Indeed, it is not merely a cheap exploitation movie, nor does it feel like another worthless Death Wish knockoff - in fact, it confidently surpasses the lan” read more

" First Viewing Viewing Date: June 10th Via: Amazon Prime Video Plot: A recently-returned Vietnam POW loses his family and his right hand during a violent home invasion, and seeks retribution against those responsible. Rating: 7.8/10 Why Did I Watch It? I've wanted to watch this for a long time due to the cast and the premise, not to mention that Tarantino is a massive fan, but it hasn't been available in Australia. When it appeared on Prime, I immediately hit play. Review here"

"What do you get when you put a returning Vietnam war-torn soldier into a situation where he must exact revenge for his slain family from the local town thugs? Two words: "rolling thunder". Or "the punisher*". But that's another movie altogether. So we'll just stick to "rolling thunder". *(For those of you who might not get the Punisher reference.... Marvel Comics' The Punisher is a character who is a Vietnam vet who became a vigilante after his family was murdered....which is basically the sam"

"6.1. Hieman vähemmälle huomiolle jäänyt tapaus, joka yhdistelee Vietnam-traumojen käsittelyä perinteiseen kostoelokuvaan onnistuneesti. Lisäksi toimintapuoli on asiallista (plus koukkukäsi sopivan eksploitatiivinen yksityiskohta muuten vakavahkossa elokuvassa) ja hahmogalleria varsin vahvaa tekoa. Mukana on muun muassa nuori Tommy Lee Jones, jonka tyhjä katse valpastuu ja suu vääntyy perverssiin hymyyn, kun mies pääsee tauon jälkeen toteuttamaan Vietnamin aikaista itseään. - Wh"

"The Acuna Boys take their name from the gang of villains in 'Rolling Thunder'."
“To be honest, I really had no idea what to expect from this movie but since I have a weak spot for Tommy Lee Jones, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, eventually, Jones had only a rather small part and showed up only for a couple of scenes. Indeed, William Devane was actually playing the lead but he was actually pretty good. Anyway, even though this movie might seem to be another revenge thriller (it was definitely sold as one), it was actually more about PTSD and, in my opinion, it was actually one of the better movies I have seen about the subject. Indeed, they basically followed the rules of the genre but the tone was much darker and bleaker than usual. For example, while the main character was being assaulted, I couldn't stop thinking about what would happen if his wife and ” read more

"9.7, PC Sopivasti asennetta omaava kostoelokuva; ei mitään kummoista mutta toimii."

"First viewing - July 9th I've been following a series on A.V. Club this year called A History of Violence, which explores the most important action movie of each year starting with Bullitt. And I had seen everything the series covered until Rolling Thunder came up, so I picked it up along with their 1978 pick The Driver (which I also hadn't seen) to watch back-to-back. Certainly you can tell the influence this had on action movies. It was the first to really deal with post-Vietnam America dire"
