I have been wondering about this film for awhile. I wasn't sure if I would ever watch it or not. I mean it does have a decent cast, but I wasn't sure it would have my attention. I decided though during my 2016 Horrorthon I would give it a shot. Lucky McKee also wrote and directed All Cheerleaders Die and The Woman. Both of which are quite different styles of storytelling, but they are both pretty ... read more

I Don't Have Any Friends!

I like to watch this film alone, or with my good bipolar friend Jessica. At times we all feel like we have no one who wants us and that we are utterly alone. You can either listen to Mariah Carey's "Hero" OR you can go this kind of crazy! How far does the soul go to be touched? And how much hurt can one take? Where are the answers to loneliness? It is within you, is Mariah right? Or maybe you have... read more

"Re-watch - Oct. 8th I still love every damn minute of May, and Angela Bettis remains as impressive as ever. It's one of those little horror films that I'll forever sing the praises of to anyone who will listen, and a perfect film for an October horror run."

70 MORE Underappreciated Horror Movies (70 movies items)

"Socially inept May begins to make inroads into friendship but finds that most relationships are fragile and fleeting. Torn by her needs and reality she must decide to grow her inner circle or fulfill her mother's sage childhood advice, in what what certainly remains as Lucky McKee's standout contribution to horror. Dark comedic aspects abound in this psychological horror piece that further profits from Angela Bettis' dazzling portrayal of the titular character. Macabre and, strangely enough, mov"

The 50 Greatest Horror Movies of the 21st Century (50 movies items)

"Navigating a tonal tightrope between tenderness and terror, Lucky McKee’s May ultimately resembles the patchwork creature that’s pieced together in its gruesome final act. This monstrous meditation on E.M. Forster’s motto “Only connect!” chronicles a pathetic, pent-up wallflower’s (Angela Bettis) attempts to establish “normal” relations with colleagues at a veterinary surgery and a potential love object or two. This proves a fool’s errand, since McKee surrounds her with a suppo"

Film Journal 2015 (112 movies items)

" May is....different. She doesn't really have normal social skills, but you pull for her because, man, does she try! She just wants friends and maybe, just maybe someone to hold her. This is one of those build-until-it-explodes films and it was weird as hell and I dug it."

I decided though during my 2016 Horrorthon I would give it a shot. Lucky McKee also wrote and directed All Cheerleaders Die and The Woman. Both of which are quite different styles of storytelling, but they are both pretty damn good. Hopefully he is consistent with this as well. Time to check it out.

Okay that was one hell of an interesting opening. It kind of feels like a horror version of something similar to say Never Been Kissed. It's definitely a very different approach the horror genre. It's on a very psychological level through the meat of the story. This causes it to be somewhat of a slow burner. T” read more

35 From 2: My Favorite Films From 2002 (35 movies items)

"Okay, we all know by know that hell hath no fury like that of a woman scorned. So how can you tell whether a woman is truly in love with you or if she's just a remarkably incessant psychopath? Well, if her infatuation is based on love, true love, then she is after your heart. If her infatuation is based on murderous madness, then, she is after your heart, your lungs, your limbs, etc. Separately. The fact that this movie is has been promoted as a horror film, makes it easy to guess which cate"
