This romantic comedy is so much more than that. It was written for Katherine Hepburn and after playing it on stage she asked Cary Grant (who had starred with her in Bringing Up Baby, Hepburn's last movie that made her box office poison years before) to star with her.

Katherine Hepburn is great in this. She has the character down pat. She's cold and distant even while being hurt and ... read more

"I'm going crazy. I'm standing here solidly on my own two hands and going crazy."

The Philadelphia Story is a classic, enchanting romantic comedy that has gone down in history as one of the much-loved romantic comedies of all time.

I will admit that because the film is decades old it has lost some of its charm and appeal, but the abilities of the actors is what truly... read more

Description: Tracy Lord (Hepburn), a Philadelphia heiress, is about to marry coal-company executive George Kittridge (John Howard). The wedding, promising to be the season's premier event, attracts the attention of a magazine publisher who sees it as an opportunity to break a story. Spy magazine's Dexter Haven (Cary Grant), Lord’s ex-husband, is enlisted to "gain access" to the party, along with top scandal writer Macauley Connor (James Stewart). However, the reporter is quickly smitten by the bride’s charms--and he’s not the only one. -source: RottenTomatoes.com ... (more)

“The excellent play by Phillip Barry, is the basis for the delightful transfer to the screen. The choice of George Cukor as its director seems to have been made in heaven. Indeed, Mr. Cukor clearly understood what was needed to make this film the classic it became. George Cukor's contribution, as well of the magnificent screenplay, by Donald Ogden Stewart, make this a timeless comedy that looks as fresh today as when it was originally released.” read more

" Notes: Since I’m a huge movie buff, I watch all kinds of movies and I’m particularly interested in Classics. However, to be honest, in my opinion, there are two kinds of classics, some of them which remain untouched by time , and which will always be great and amazing like ‘Citizen Kane’ , ‘M’, ‘ Rashomon’ or ‘A bout de souffle’ and the other sort which are still very well regarded but which seems rather dated like ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ , ‘The Wizard of Oz’ or "

Movies the giraffe watched in 2019: April (25 movies items)

"First viewing - April 28th This month is sorely lacking in older fare, so I picked this up since I hadn’t seen it and it boasted such a strong cast. Despite its ridiculousness and the fact that the dialogue often comes off as scripted rather than natural (not in a good way) the story wound up winning me over enough that I could let some of its faults slide a bit. I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch it again, but it was worth seeing."
