Deservedly a classic. Unmissable!

"You see, boys forget what their country means by just reading The Land of the Free in history books. Then they get to be men they forget even more. Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books, Miss Saunders. Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't, I can, and my children will. Boys ought to grow... read more

Brilliant Capra-Stewart classic!

I am not really a great admirer of politics because I don't really understand them at all. This film was a real helping hand to me because I understand a bit more of what politics really are. I also understood what other things involving politics such as the government, laws and making decisions about things around the world. This is probably the feel-good political film because Capra is probably ... read more

Since this movie had a really solid reputation, I was quite eager to check it out. Apparently, this movie was first developed as a sequel to ‘Mr. Deeds Goes to Town’ but since Gary Cooper was not available, they changed the name of the main character and they gave this part to James Stewart who gave here a star-making performance.  Indeed, I thought that Stewart was actually more convincing t... read more

Two slimy fat-cat legislators recruit Jefferson Smith, an innocent and staunchly principled Montana scout leader, as the state's new Senator, hoping to exploit his naviete and community pride to bring home pork-barrel funds. Once he ascends to Capitol Hill, however, Mr. Smith finds nothing but deep-rooted corruption in Washington, D.C., and, absolutely refusing to submit to cynicism, he tirelessly takes the message of the American people right to their out-of-touch representatives.

Alternative Propaganda (from the greatest country)

“I watched “It’s A Wonderful Life” which was like a, curious example of how things used to be for some people, and I try to eventually watch three movies by the same director, and the library had this movie too. I feel like “Arsenic and Old Lace” will be like a better movie, right—Cary Grant has a great voice, and it’ll be cool to see him young; and just generally, I trust Frank to be a great party host more than I trust him to bring freedom and truth to the little ones, you know.

(Frank Capra) And you know, as I was explaining to my girlfriend, Buttercup, American democracy, is ultimately founded upon Athenian democracy. (weird hanger-on from early 20th century America) Oh yeah, Frank? What was so great about Athenian democracy? (Frank) Well, in Athenian democra” read more

"“To me, it’s the definitive Frank Capra film…back in the thirties, you put his name on a marquee, it meant as much as Clark Gable…. People went to see a Capra film because he directed it. And he won three Academy Awards for Best Director in five years; nobody has ever done something like that.” -Robert Osborne “The banquet scene is a beautiful job of cutting and exposition….
