A distinctive, landmark vampire movie!

"Not so fast, my young friend! No-one can outrun their fate."

F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film Nosferatu is a groundbreaking masterpiece of the vampire genre: a truly fascinating film that is the essential blueprint for all vampire movies that were to follow. Murnau fundamentally gave birth to the horror genre with this silent film from the German Expressionism era of filmmaking. At t... read more

''Blood! Your precious blood!''

Vampire Count Orlok expresses interest in a new residence and real estate agent Hutter's wife. Silent classic based on the story "Dracula."

Max Schreck: Graf Orlok

Made in 1922, Nosferatu is the first big screen adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and it is by far the best.

A great classic

Wow, man... It is almost a 100 years old... How awesome is that! It is black and white, it is silent and yet it is totally spellbinding. I wonder how many so-called horror fans have still to watch this masterpiece? Basically, it is simply the first and ultimate vampire flick, no more no less. In my opinion and a view shared by the gross majority of the film community, it is still an amazing featur... read more

Slant’s 100 Greatest Horror Films – 2018 Edition (100 movies items)

"There’s an ephemeral quality to this classic vampire story’s images that haunts the mind, like the disease of Count Orlock’s very presence, long after the final credits have rolled: the cargo ship stacked with coffins, a silhouetted Max Schreck climbing a set of stairs, the enigmatic final sequence that blurs the line between heroism and sadism. There are also the striking point-of-view shots that illustrate the experiential qualities of horror cinema, a technique whose influence has been "

Films that absolutely needed that remake. (10 movies items)

"F. W. Murnau's 1922 classic is great, but silent. One could argue that 1931's Universal classic, "Dracula" is a remake, but I'd hold out for the 1979 "Nosferatu The Vampire" as the true remake of this film. The second one has sound and is exceptional."

Movie Reviews (751-800) (50 movies items)

" Some of the most memorable images ever put in a vampire movie - and it is silent. Max Schreck gets the price for being the ugliest-looking and most unromantic vampire put on screen and actually looks like a bat-man. It is hard not to revisit this masterpiece and it is fun to see this and compare it to Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula adaptation who clearly took much inspiration from it. Happy that the Bram Stoker estate didn't manage to destroy every single copy of this silent classic."
