This was released in an era where horrors and thrillers were becoming landmarks and where the older generation of cinema was slowly changing to the modern generation and as I was watching The Hitcher it did bring back memories of the older classic thrillers but also at the same time, was the start of something new and became the dawning of a new era. There were many moments that did give me chills... read more

Since I kept hearing good things about this flick, I was really eager to watch it. To be honest, I'm not usually a big fan of those cheesy 80's action movies. I mean, some of them are decent but most of them are rather underwhelming, in my opinion. However, I have definitely a weak spot for this one. Description: When a young man, driving to California by himself, naively picks up a hitchhiker, he gets more than he bargained for: the hitcher is a serial killer who mercilessly slashes anyone he meets, ranging from truckstop waitresses to happy families in station wagons. Because of a lucky fluke, the driver manages to escape the charismatic murderer. Enraged that one of his intended victims has gone free, the hitcher cleverly frames the young man for the killings. Now the driver realizes he is the only one who can stop the hitchhiker -- and his freedom depends on his success. A magnanimous young man who picks up a strange hitchhiker on ... (more)

Slant’s 100 Greatest Horror Films – 2018 Edition (100 movies items)

"A young man (C. Thomas Howell) drives through the El Paso desert on a rainy night, nearly falling asleep, when a stranger (Rutger Hauer, in top leering form) materializes by the side of the road, thumbing a ride. And that’s enough of a setup for director Robert Harmon in The Hitcher to craft a veritable waking nightmare of endless highways, contorted bodies, and one man’s sheer evil seeping through another’s skin. At times an uncanny abstraction of asphalt, battered earth, and splattered b"
