See I always confuse the Directors Paul Thomas Anderson, Paul W.S. Anderson, and Wes Anderson because they all have similar names. They are quite different filmmakers for sure though. I was curious about this one so I checked it out thanks to my awesome job at the local theater. This movie was pretty weird and at the same time hilarious and highly entertaining. The dialogue was pretty great as wel... read more

With over 150 minutes, the script went absolutely nowhere. Plain old useless blah.

You know, I never had anything less than absolute faith that Paul Thomas Anderson would manage to create a perfectly fine adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s work, but what I couldn’t even begin to imagine was just so immaculately he would manage to transfer the swirling, labyrinthine nature of the author’s work to the screen. Typically narrative structure has never been a strong concern with Pyn... read more

A Complete Review of Paul Thomas Anderson's work (10 movies items)

" Cast : Joaquin Phoenix, Katherine Waterston, Josh Brolin, Eric Roberts, Maya Rudolph, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short What was it about? In 1970, drug-fueled Los Angeles private investigator Larry "Doc" Sportello investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend. My two cents: Usually, Paul Thomas Anderson is not what you could call a quick director. Indeed, it took him 5 long years after 'Punch-Drunk Love' to come up with 'There Will Be Bloo"

Slant’s 100 Best Film Noirs of All Time (100 movies items)

"The ‘70-set Los Angeles of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice toes a fine, very Andersonian line between fantasy and reality, between the L.A. of many noirs and the one pockmarked by hopelessness, poverty, racism, and alienation. Despite the film’s finely honed sense of casualness, Anderson has a lot on his plate here, as he’s competing with multiple legends: Thomas Pynchon, who wrote the source novel; Robert Altman, who directed the seminal counterculture noir, The Long Goodbye; and S"

Movies I Watched in January 2019 (30 movies items)

" Date: 1/3/2019 Viewed: Streaming (Amazon Rental) First viewing Note: I never saw this movie when it was out in theaters due to me being busy with college at the time. It's also the very few Paul Thomas Anderson movies that I never saw. I really wanted to like this movie, but I was let down by it. I dig the idea of the movie, but the movie was way too slow for me. One hour of movie feels like three hours. I remember a lot of people loved this movie, but I could not get into it. "

Movies the giraffe watched in 2018: January (26 movies items)

"First viewing - Jan. 13th Another film I'd been mildly regretting not seeing in theatres, because while I may not love everything PTA makes I can usually at least appreciate what he comes up with. This film falls squarely under the heading of appreciated but not loved. I really struggled to maintain my connection with the film & its characters, largely thanks to the way the dialogue is written (and especially the narration). I have no doubt this is Pynchon's doing, despite having never read the"
