Sort by: Showing 14 items
Rating: List Type:
Average listal rating (88 ratings) 6.8 IMDB Rating 0
Sam Merlotte

First appearance: "Strange Love"
Occupation: Bar owner
Family: Tommy Mickens (brother), Melinda (biological mother)
Species: Shapeshifter

Sam is the owner of Merlotte's, where Sookie works. During the first season, Sam is characterized by his adoration and loyalty towards Sookie Stackhouse. When Bill Compton becomes involved with Sookie, he openly disapproves of their relationship and (despite initially showing support for equal vampire rights and selling Tru Blood at his bar) feels as though vampires and humans should be separate whether they're equals or not. Despite his distrust of Bill, he saves Bill's life at the end of the first season by burying his charred body to hide it from the sunlight.

Sam has a brief relationship with Tara Thornton during the first season, but by the time Maryann Forester returns to Bon Temps the two have gone their separate ways romantically. Sam is also a shapeshifter, often watching over Sookie in the form of a dog, and the first supernatural introduced to the series that isn't a vampire.

He keeps his nature as a shapeshifter hidden from Bon Temps, and (though vampires appear to be able to recognize what he is on sight) Sookie is the only human resident to know his secret during the first season.

In Season 4, Sam said he was attending an anger management group. Although the group Sam attends is not actually an anger management group it is a group where Sam can talk about his feelings and etc. The group consists of three other shapeshiters Emory, Suzanne, and Luna who Sam seems to be attracted to, she too shows interest in Sam as well but doesn't speak much about her past.

Tommy Mickens

He is shocked by the news of having a brother he never knew about and hated him at first, but after spending time with him he begins to enjoy having Sam for a brother to the point where he asks Sam to let him stay with him after a fight with his father, Joe Lee. Sam also gives Tommy a job at Merlotte's.

It is revealed in "Hitting The Ground" that Joe Lee uses Tommy and his mother (in the past) in dog fights in order to gain money. Once Sam discovers this, he persuades Tommy to leave his parents and stay with him and Tommy accepts.

When Tommy tells Sam that he lost his family because of him and he has no way to make it in the world, Sam suggests he get a job. Tommy confesses to Sam that he is illiterate. Doubting that Sam will shoot him, Tommy picks up the bag of money and leaves; Sam's gun fires toward him.

Tommy survived the gunshot from Sam, but damaged his leg. He moved in with Maxine Fortenberry who treats him like a son; due to the absence of Hoyt. A year later, he still pretends he's unable to walk in order to receive special treatment.

An enraged Maryann pursues Sookie into the woods, only to be stopped by a large white bull, which she takes to be her god finally answering her summons. She is surprised when the bull impales her with one of its horns, asking if it means she is to be the final sacrifice to bring her god into the world. She accepts that her god wants her to die, thus dropping her immortality shield, and lets herself be ravaged by the bull, only to be shocked again when the bull morphs into a healed Sam who is ripping out her heart.

A distraught Maryann's last words are "Was there no god?"; Sam and Bill's deception had worked, as they had tricked Maryann into vulnerability. Sam then crushes her heart in his hand, causing her body to instantly decay into a skeletal, black corpse. Bill appears shortly after and reveals Sam had agreed to be stabbed if Bill would heal him after Sookie distracted Maryann.

She is physically stronger then a human, and can shapeshift, changing herself to appear more human-like and beautiful.

Last appearance: "Timebomb"
Occupation: Waitress
Cause/reason of death: killed by Benedict Talley while under Maryann Forrester's control

Daphne Landry is a waitress hired at Merlotte's when Sookie Stackhouse leaves for Dallas in season two. She claims to have some experience working at the Cracker Barrel in Alexandria, Louisiana during her interview, though (despite an obvious effort) she proves to be consistently inept in accomplishing what's expected of her as a waitress. She is revealed to have strange claw marks on her back that are eventually revealed to be a trademark of Maryann Forrester's; also found on Miss Jeanette's corpse and inflicted on Sookie early on in season two.

After beginning to tentatively flirt with Sam Merlotte, she reveals that not only does she know that he's a shapeshifter, but that she's a shapeshifter as well. The two begin a romance soon after, but when Daphne lures Sam to one of Maryann's bacchanalia, it becomes clear that their relationship was all a plan to trap Sam for her mistress in the first place. As Daphne is unable to secure Sam as a sacrifice, a possessed "Eggs" Talley carves out her heart at Maryann's command instead.

CONTAINS LOTS OF SPOILERS, BE AWARE

I AM CURRENTLY UPDATING THESE LISTS

These creatures look human, but they have the ability to change into an animal. Most of them can only turn into one type of animal - such as a wolf (known as Weres), panthers, or even tigers!

Fairies are the complete opposite of vampires and vampires seek them out. Vampires have "a thing" for faeries. Their blood does some freaky things to them - like letting them walk out into the sun, which is the goal of every bloodsucker.
